Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has submitted the following waiver requests to USDA for approval and will update LEAs as responses are received and guidance is established:

  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Alternative Sites Waiver
  • ADE has submitted a waiver to permit Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) operations at National School Lunch Program (NSLP) sites that are not elementary schools during School Year 2020-2021 for FFVP elementary schools operating distance learning models due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) Parent Pickup Waiver
  • Currently, operators are to provide FFVP foods directly to students, not to parents and guardians. ADE has submitted a waiver for the requirement that children must be present with parents or guardians for children to receive the FFVP during School Year 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Establishment of Non-Base Year Claiming Percentages
  • ADE has submitted a waiver of the Special Assistance certification and reimbursement alternatives regarding monthly/annual percentage requirements. This waiver allows ADE to use an annual claiming percentage from the months of July 2019-February 2020 to determine the claiming percentages for subsequent non-base years for sites operating Special Assistance Provision 2 or 3.
USDA has extended the Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements, now effective through June 30, 2021 for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). ADE intends to opt-in to the following waiver extension:
