Moreno Valley Wins Award for Nason Street Corridor Plan

The City of Moreno Valley was presented with a Merit Award for the Nason Street Corridor Plan at the 2017 American Planning Association – Inland Empire Section awards on May 18 at the Riverside Convention Center. 

The Nason Street Corridor Plan will guide the transformation of 2,133 acres into a walkable, livable center for Moreno Valley with a range of jobs, high quality housing, well-connected neighborhoods, open space, and transit options.

The plan provides guidance for future planning efforts within the Nason Corridor extending southerly from State Highway 60 to Iris Avenue. The funding for the project was made possible by a Sustainability Planning Grant from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). 

Input from two public workshops as well as stakeholder meetings were incorporated into the plan.

The success of this first effort provided the groundwork for the City to apply for an additional Sustainability Planning Grant through SCAG for the second phase of the Nason Street Corridor Study. 

A grant for the Nason Street Corridor Phase II: Town Center Study Area Plan was awarded to the City in February.  Phase II will begin this fall.

Memorial Day Ceremony Pays Solemn Tribute to Fallen Service Members

The City paid its respects to our servicemen and women who laid down their lives for their brothers and sisters in arms, and for the Country they loved, at a solemn Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial.

Student speaker Vista Heights Middle School student Morgan Lowry gave an inspiring speech that told of the selfless sacrifices these men and women made. 

Mayor General Randall A. Ogden, Commander, 4th Air Force, delivered a keynote address focusing on the people behind the uniform. These sacrifices are not tabulated in numbers; they are counted in lives, and the families who are left behind. 

Thank you to the Moreno Valley Master Chorale, the Blue Eagles Total Honor Guard, Frank Wright, Navy, retired, National Anthem performer Yensid Anderson of Valley View High School, and the Knights of Columbus, A.F. Chelbana Assembly, for helping to orchestrate such a beautiful ceremony.

Banners honoring three more Moreno Valley servicemen were installed along Cactus Avenue, along with a paver at the Veterans Memorial.

Special Enforcement Team Officers Honored for Gang Suppression Work

Moreno Valley Police Corporal G. Castaneda and Officer S. Fernandez from the Moreno Valley Police Department Special Enforcement Team were recently honored by the Optimist Club of Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The officers  received an award and special recognition for their dedication to gang suppression activities.

Commercial Lighting Program Retrofits Will Save Customer Thousands

Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) recently worked with Lakeside Terrace Shopping Center to retrofit the center's parking lot lighting to make it more energy efficient.

Replacing existing parking lot lighting with more energy efficient LED lamps is expected to save the center's owner more than $18,000 a year in energy and maintenance costs.

In addition to the cost savings, the new LED lamps will increase the uniformity and light levels in the parking lot. 

MVU Public Purpose Program funds helped fund the improvements.

Police Department Collecting Worn, Tattered Flags for Proper Disposal

The Moreno Valley Police Department is now accepting American flags for proper destruction.

When a flag becomes worn, tattered, faded, or soiled it should be disposed of properly. Residents can bring their worn, tattered, faded or soiled flags to the Moreno Valley Police Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The flags will be collected and taken to Riverside National Cemetery for proper disposal.

The Moreno Valley Police Department is located at 22850 Calle San Juan De Los Lagos in Moreno Valley.
