Board Recognition

State Superintendent's Advisory Council
Audrey Long, 12th grade, and Jordan Washington, 11th grade, were recognized for their selection for the State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. They will meet three times this school year with State Superintendent Richard Woods and will serve as liaisons between the Georgia Department of Education and the students of Georgia. Both students attend Chapel Hill High School.

Middle School Softball Championship
The Fairplay Middle School Lady Jaguars softball team members and coaches were recognized for winning the Douglas County softball championship.

Unfinished Business

Board approved a whole board training session for January 7, 2019, 3:00 pm.

Consent Agenda
The following items were approved:

  • Purchase of five 72 passenger school buses, mostly funded with state grant money
  • Surplus of items that are obsolete or beyond repair
  • Purchase of network firewall and internet filter
  • Fueling station repairs
  • Annual renewal of MediaCast Streaming Media Solution
  • Surplus of food service equipment
  • EPIC after school tutoring program for Stewart Middle, Turner Middle, and Chestnut Log Middle
  • Certified and classified personnel

Action Agenda
Board approved services agreement with Hanover Research.

Information Only

Overnight and out-of-state field trips were presented for review.

Present were Board Members Tracy Rookard, District III, Chair; Michelle Simmons, District IV, Vice Chair; Devetrion Caldwell, District I; D.T. Jackson, District II, and Jeff Morris, District V. Also present were Superintendent Trent North; Assistant Superintendent of District Operations Kwame Carr; Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Policy Dr. Michelle Ruble; Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Renee Davis; Executive Director of Communications Nell Boggs; Community Relations Director Karen Stroud; and Secretary to the Superintendent Melanie Nicholson.
