New Smoothie King Opens at 10560 Westheimer

A new Smoothie King, complete with a drive-thru window, opened in Westchase District last week at 10560 Westheimer. Store manager Veronica Zepeda and her staff are serving 32 oz fruit smoothies for $5 and meal-replacement smoothies for $6 on Fridays, so drive by and say hi.

The location, which was the former home of Logan Farms, has 2,350 square feet of commercial space available for lease - we think that could result in a fruitful blending of businesses. For leasing information, contact Bill Robertson with Royal Management Group, 713-952-9900.

District's Annual Public Hearing at 9 a.m., Oct. 18

Our annual "Report to the Community" is an opportunity for Westchase District business owners and property managers to hear directly from our staff about what has been achieved in Westchase District this year. We are proud of what we have accomplished for the owners, residents and businesses in the District and we look forward to presenting this information at this public meeting. More importantly, this meeting presents an opportunity for us to hear from our stakeholders. No RSVP is necessary.

WDCF Fundraising Breakfast Nov. 1 at Cantina Laredo

WDCF Fundraising Breakfast Speakers
HD Chambers and Scott Muri will be the featured speakers discussing "Follow the Funding: How Texas Redistributes Your Taxes for Public Schools."

What's more refreshing than a cold glass of orange juice first thing in the morning? How about a candid conversation among West Houston's education leaders about public school funding issues prior to the next state legislative session in January? How about BOTH things together?

Join school superintendents HD Chambers (Alief ISD) and Scott Muri (Spring Branch ISD) for breakfast on Thursday, November 1 to hear inside perspectives on the challenges facing public school funding in Texas from two of the city's top public education officials.

The breakfast will take place at Cantina Laredo, 11129 Westheimer Road. The event will kick off with networking at 7 a.m., followed at 7:30 a.m. with a seated breakfast and presentation.

Sponsorships are available for $200. They include breakfast and premium seating for four. Individual seats may be purchased for $55. Proceeds benefit the Westchase District Community Fund.

Master Gardeners On Site This Week

This week the temperature went from 90 to 55 like it saw a state trooper, and plants of all kinds are feeling the whiplash. On hand this week at the market, our friends from the Harris County Master Gardeners will help make sense of it all.  Come with your questions about how to prepare your citrus and pecan trees for cold weather, or just chat about fall vegetables with the experts.

Plus, enjoy fresh, local products from more than two dozen vendors who are eager to chat about their areas of expertise, as well as offer you samples. Just make sure to bring a jacket!

You've Got Questions, They've Got Answers: The Harris County Master Gardeners will be at the market this week, ready to listen and advise.
