Spreading joy and building community through dance, music, and song for 100 years
~ News and Notes for Affiliate Groups ~

Dear Group Contacts for all CDSS affiliates,

Please relay this eblast to your group organizers. It includes IMPORTANT info that will have long-lasting benefits for your group!

Affiliate Survey to Shape
Future Web Chats

We recently hosted our very first web chat! (See description below.) We've discovered that these online events are a great way to create and share resources that will support ALL our group Affiliates. This is a top priority for CDSS, so we'd love to have your group's input about topics that are most pertinent for YOUR community. To gather your requests, we've put together this online survey:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KD9SVZ9

Please make sure that a key organizer from your group replies to this survey as soon as possible ( by July 31at the latest).

Stay tuned for announcements to confirm the next web chat in mid-September. The survey will collect data to help us choose a time and date that works best for the most groups. Please send us your preferences via the survey!

CDSS Hosts First Web Chat for Organizers

At noon EDT on June 21st, more than 70 organizers from across the continent and the Atlantic Ocean joined CDSS's first web chat for organizers. This was the first in a series of online events designed to facilitate the sharing of resources, knowledge, and ideas among dance organizers. The topic of the hour was Boosting AttenDANCE. Participants heard stories from organizers Jo Mortland (Chicago Barn Dance Company in Chicago, IL) and then Laura Gorrin and Margaret Pigman (Circle Left - a gender neutral dance in Oakland, CA sponsored by San Francisco Bay Queer Contra Dance). Each story was followed by an open Q&A time. We were thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive responses from organizers far and wide! If you missed the first web chat, here's a link to the recording that's posted on the CDSS website:

These web chats are a direct response from CDSS to the feedback we received from the 2016 Canadian Organizers Survey, and the less formal survey of U.S. Organizers conducted earlier this year. As an international organization, CDSS is uniquely positioned to bring people together across different regions. Our hope for these web chats is to bridge the barriers of geography, and provide an opportunity for folks to connect and learn with others who share their passion for making dance, music, and song happen in their communities.

How can your group be involved in this new web chat series?

1. Make sure that your group's CDSS contact person is sharing this information with your whole organizing team.
2. Respond to the survey mentioned above.
3. Tell CDSS about your successful endeavors, and be willing to share your story. Contact Linda Henry at linda@cdss.org.
4. Listen to recordings of previous web chats here:
5. Keep an eye out for e-blasts and announcements about web chats and resources for organizers.
