From the Interim Minister
We had a good trip back to Colorado the middle of August. We took two days of drive time each way. We visited our furniture, spent time with our daughter, and saw the mountains. What we saw of the mountains in Colorado Springs was filtered through California forest fire smoke. In fact, the smoke caused our daughter to have to go to her doctor for relief. Our daughter kept us busy each evening, and she had her dad help her to get a tree off her fence. We went to the Rocky Mountain National Park one day and received a clearer view of the mountains there. The temps were in the 60s and 70s while we were there. As usual we received a shower most afternoons. We also had some rain traveling in Kansas both ways.
Everyone was excited in our home church about the fact that our minister’s wife gave birth to their second child, both are boys, on Saturday afternoon while we were there. The retired Minister Emeritus preached with only a few hours of notice as the baby arrive two weeks before scheduled; those little guys do have their own timetable. Our pastor has six weeks of paternity leave. Besides the Minister Emeritus there are three others on staff who will be doing the preaching while he is on leave.
I have picked up from the Search Committee that at least some of them are getting excited about the search. Time will tell. I have noted in other transition situations that it seems the process goes on forever, and then it often happens all at once.
Many of you have asked about Dorothy’s recovery from the fall and seizure. She finds herself less secure and weaker than she was before it all happened. She asked for and received permission for therapy and is receiving it twice a week now. She really appreciates the offers of help; especially the help she receives on Sunday morning getting her walker where she needs it.
Blessings! Interim Minister Phillip Hayes
THANK YOU
The family of Marty Jackson would like to thank those who stayed with her and helped her following her fall last Sunday.

On August 19 th the Catch and Worship Teams partnered to hold our "Sending off Summer with Ice Cream" event. It was a great time for our church family and neighbors to get together. A big thank you to all that helped make it happen: Donna Adams, Daryl Killian, Mary Sego, Bob and Clara Goldberg, Jeff Goodspeed, Dawn Ramey, Kathy Stirlen, Carolyn Kanehe, Matthew Stewart, Dave and Susie Kelsey, Sue and Rex Dismore, Cindy Garvey, Sandie Hauser, Harriett Beeler, Letcher Floyd, Mike Rubesch, Steve Henry, Mary Fran and Brian Nelson and Don Lindstrom. The ice cream with all the fun toppings made for some "interesting" dishes. Many thanks to Donna for providing a light supper afterward in the fellowship hall. Congratulations to our game winners, and super thanks to Jeff for his fun music.

FCC Pastoral Search Report
It has been a busy summer for the Pastoral Search Committee, as we met with Rev. Carolyn Reed on April 11th to get organized and prepare for the search of a Senior Pastor. After New Beginnings was completed the Pastoral Search Committee met to complete the church profile. We received our first 12 Pastoral Candidate Profiles on July 17th and received an additional 3 later. After reviewing all Profiles we narrowed the list to the top 3 to continue conversation with. One of those chose not to continue with us and a second entered into negotiations with another church.
We moved forward with the remaining candidate and arranged and held a skype interview on August 6th. Following the interview we contacted the references. After review the committee decided to ask for continued exclusive conversation with this candidate. The candidate is also in favor of moving forward to the next step. Arrangements are being made to bring them to Lafayette for an on site visit and 2nd interview. The Executive Committee has met and completed a proposed salary and benefit package. At this time I would like to thank each of you for your patience, support and prayers for our church and the Pastoral Search Committee. Please continue to be patient and please continue to pray for our church and the entire search committee. Sandie Hauser, Chair of Pastoral Search Committee
