Make a gift through your will. Gifts through wills or living trusts have been a cornerstone of The Community Foundation's growth. Cash, securities, real estate or personal property (such as art or jewelry) can all be given to the Foundation through a well-planned will. Alternatively, many people choose to designate a percentage of their estate, which allows you to benefit the Foundation and loved ones in relative proportion as circumstances change.

Although legal consultation is advisable before you establish any type of will provision, know
that a bequest could simply be stated as follows: " I give and bequeath to The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region, 541 Loyal Street, Danville, VA 24541, federal tax identification number 54-4123141, ____% of my total estate (or $_____, or other property)."

Such a provision in your will creates an unrestricted bequest, which assures that your gift will be used where it is most needed. You can also direct your bequest to establish your own personalized endowment fund, which we would be happy to discuss with you in advance. For sample bequest language click here.
