One Text - Many Voices
This week's One Text - Many Voices features Eyal Catran, Noah Diner, and Noa Geralnik. Click here for their views on the following text:

"And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom, and Lot saw and arose toward them, and he prostrated himself on his face to the ground. And he said, "Behold now my lords, please turn to your servant's house and stay overnight and wash your feet, and you shall arise early and go on your way." And they said, "No, but we will stay overnight in the street."And he urged them strongly, and they turned in to him, and came into his house, and he made them a feast, and he baked unleavened cakes, and they ate."

From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab

The Houston Museum of Natural Science came to visit with their Texas Wildlife program. Students in our Early Childhood and Kindergarten program got to learn about our Texas habitats and the animals that live in them. They also got to touch a Texas Tortoise, a Rex Rabbit, an American Crocodile and a Milk Snake. HMNS
has a fantastic Texas habitat exhibit at their Herman Park location and free admission on Thursdays. Thank you to our PTO for making this visit possible!
Flat People Travel to Israel!

The story of flat Stanley has inspired the desire to travel. Ms. Rantz's 2nd grade students finished creating their very own flat people, each with their own back story, to travel with the seniors on their Senior Trip to Israel. The students developed characters and background stories for how each person became flat. They then shared with 3 sets of buddies to develop their ideas before continuing their stories. The seniors will take the flat people with them and take pictures to send back to RMBA. This unit helps in character development and relationships between 2nd and 12th grade.
Not "Board" with Games

Students in 8th grade had a great time last Sunday at the home of Rebecca and Paul Oberman. Students enjoyed bonding and playing board games, eating ice cream sundaes, and getting to know how competitive our Head of School can be.
Hakarat Hatov

We are so grateful to our local Home Depot and the generosity of store manager Mr. Chris for continuously supporting the BIMA makerspace with in-kind donations. Home Depot and Mr. Chris truly believe that all children should learn through STEAM and hands-on projects. Please make sure to thank him should you see him in the store!
3D Printed Synagogue

Fifth grade student Ari pictured above, designed the Kiever shul, the oldest synagogue in Toronto, Canada using Tinkercad, 3D design software available to students in the BIMA makerspace. The completed printed shul will be on display at the upcoming International Festival on December 10.
Worldly Rocks

While learning about different types of rocks and how they form and can be broken down into sediment, 7th grade students in Ms. Goldstein’s science class looked at sand from all over the world under microscopes. They compared sand from white sand beaches in Florida, large grain sand from Morocco, lava rock sand from Maui, and fine grain sand from Cancun to see the different minerals and crystals that make up rocks and sediments.
Cartography

Middle school students in Mr. Duke's class are learning the art of cartography by mapping out the Middle East with rolls of masking tape. After they defined the region's geography, the students explored the journeys that our ancestors made through Eretz Yisrael. The lesson also included a discussion about the conflict that unfolded across the Israel-Gaza border this week.
ECE Staff Development

ECE staff met during their lunch time with Chani Stewart, an occupational therapist, to enhance their understanding of early childhood development and neurological movement in relation to tactile learning.
Symmetry and Science

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Blumberg's class learned the concept of Symmetry in Math. The students cut symmetrical shapes and then colored them symmetrically. It was a challenge for them, and they produced beautiful work. In Science they have been working on Habitats, specifically the Woods, the Rain Forest, Antarctica, and the Desert. Students drew and cut animals for each habitat and created beautiful posters for each one.
Lessons from Israel

This week our shlichim Aviva and Ori Friedmann presented to our upper school about the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin and the Yahrtzeit of Rachel Imeinu. They continue to give our students an enriching experience!
