In the next couple of months the library will be promoting mental wellness as we continue to spread the word about our "Cracked, Not Broken" community read programs.

Suicide: The Ripple Effect
Regal Theater in Boone
Sunday, March 18 at 3:00 pm


Kevin Hines attempted suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge...and survived.  Hines is now a sought-after speaker who tells his story of living with, and successfully managing, bipolar disorder.
The library has arranged a showing of Hines' new film "Suicide:  The Ripple Effect" on March 18 at 3:00 pm at Boone's Regal Theater.
We must pre-sell 50 tickets in order for the movie to be shown.  Tickets are $12.20 and may be reserved by clicking here.
Hines will speak in Boone in person on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 pm at Boone United Methodist Church.  This program is free and the public is invited.
Join Us in the Great Escape!

Youth 10 and up are invited to escape from the rain forest this Spring Break, on Wednesday, April 4 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Library Meeting Room.  Please sign up now at the Youth Services desk if you plan to attend, or call at (828) 264-8784 ex. 2.

Tinkering Thursdays
Thursday, March 13 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, we will be featuring a special "tinkering" activity in the Youth chidren-opening-gifts.jpg Services department.  The challenge is to create your own Leprechaun trap.
A different challenge is presented each Thursday!
Eggstravaganza
Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 am is our annual Eggstravaganza.  Join us for egg hunts for children 0 to 3 years old, and 4 to 6 years old.  Begin the scavenger hunt here and collect eggs and treats throughout downtown Boone.  Face painting, crafts, balloon twisting, and snacks will easter_egg_hunt.jpg be available here as well.  The Children's Council and the Children's Playhouse will also be present.  Special guests include Arly and the Easter Bunny.  Thank you to the Friends of the Library for funding snacks and crafts at the library, to Earth Fare for donating snacks for this event, and to DBDA for providing candy and organizing the scavenger hunt.  For more information, click here.
High Country Lifelong Learners
Join High County Lifelong Learners for a free movie screening on Monday, March 12 at 2:00 pm:  The Monuments Men, starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, H weathered-movie-reel.jpgugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett. This is a co-sponsored program, with the Watauga County Public Library.
Popcorn provided!  Bring your own refreshing beverage.
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners.  PG-13, 2014, 118 minutes.

Celebration of St. David's Day
A Celebration of St. David's Day, the National Day of Wales, will be held Saturday, March 3 at 3:00 pm and will feature poetry from the homeland of St. David, the beautiful coastal county of Pembrokeshire in Wales, which is also the homeland of the ancient legends of Wales in vintage_book_and_tea.jpg the Mabinogion
  
Poetry will be presented by Mary Gray, Elizabeth Percival, and Betty Wells.  Admission is free, and Welsh refreshments will be served.  For more information, call Mary Gray at 264-5620.


Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness Meditation with Sophia Ojha will be Saturday, March 17 at 3:00 pm.  This session's topic is "How to Love and Forgive Yourself."  Learn more at reflectionpond.com/mindful.
Talk Saves Lives
"Talk Saves LivesTM: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention" is a
community-based presentation that covers the general scope of
suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to
fight suicide. The presenter will be Betsy Rhodes, the NC Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  Attendee s will learn the risk and warning signs of
suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.
