President's Message
First and foremost, thank you for your membership and support for AIA Rochester. It is with great honor and privilege to be serving as President during the chapter's Centennial Year. I'm humbled to be contributing to our historic organization whose reputation is second to none in the state and beyond. Our success at the AIA NYS Honor Awards last year is evidence of that.
Our Chapter's history began in 1919 when The Rochester Society of Architects was formed. This marked the city's first professional organization of architects. Since that time, both the city and our profession have seen dramatic change.

AIA Centennial Update
AIA Rochester Centennial Design Build Competition
|
The Rochester chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Rochester) is the professional organization for architects in the greater Rochester area. This year marks 100 years since the professional organization began as the Rochester Society of Architects in 1919.
The special centennial events seek to raise the visibility of architects, the professional firms, and the built environment in the Rochester region. We want to reach out to the community to help demonstrate how design matters in our everyday lives.
In that vein, we are proud to host this competition to design and construct a collection of temporary interactive spaces within the City Center of Rochester, NY.
The goal of this competition is to create a series of interactive follies that encourage public engagement and in doing so, highlight the importance of architecture. Participating teams are to build upon a plinth provided by AIA Rochester, in which the design should be evocative of the most easily relatable form of architecture in Western Culture - the gabled house.
