Here's a brief summary of what we've been up to in February as well as a sneak preview of some exciting contemporary music projects and events happening in March!

JANE O'LEARY AND LINDA BUCKLEY SELECTED FOR MISE EN MUSIC FESTIVAL 

Works by CMC composers Linda Buckley and Jane O'Leary have been selected for performance at this year's Mise-En Music Festival, taking place in New York from the 20-25 of June 2017. Out of 1,122 pieces submitted to the festival this year, Linda Buckley's Torann (2015) and Jane O'Leary's the passing sound of forever (2015) were chosen. CMC wishes to extend our congratulations to both composers. Read more. 


CMC SHOWCASE CONTEMPORARY CHORAL MUSIC FROM IRELAND AT ACDA CONFERENCE IN MINNEAPOLIS 

In a strategic effort to target greater programming of new choral music from Ireland in international concerts and events, CMC is participating in the  American Choral Directors Association  (ACDA) 2017 Conference in Minneapolis this month. Susan Brodigan, CMC's Library Coordinator, will attend the conference and form part of the Choral Ireland showcase. CMC will also co-host the Choral Ireland stand throughout the conference, in partnership with the Association of Irish Choirs and University Concert Hall Limerick. Read more.
 

CMC COMPOSERS PARTICIPATE IN CHORAL SKETCHES WITH TARIK O'REAGAN & CHAMBER CHOIR IRELAND 

On the 24 February, composers Amanda Feery, Michael Gallen and Seán Doherty participated in a workshop led by Tarik O'Regan with Chamber Choir Ireland, as part of CMC's Choral Sketches project, a unique professional development opportunity for composers wishing to develop their skills in writing choral music. Read about the workshop and watch a video which includes excepts of the composers sketches here.  

 JANE O'LEARY'S LATEST CD LAUNCHED AT CMC

On Wednesday 22 February, CMC hosted the launch of composer Jane O'Leary's latest CD, The Passing Sound of Forever. The CD was officially launched by Sheila Pratschke, chair of the Arts Council of Ireland, who addressed invited guests with a speech illustrating the important contribution Jane has made to contemporary music in Ireland, while also commending the quality and dedication of the performing artists, Concorde and the ConTempo Quartet.  Read more. 

CMC Shop Spotlight 

The European Piano Teacher's Association (EPTA)   Piano Festival takes place in the National Concert Hall on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of March 2017. CMC proudly sponsors the contemporary music competitions at the festival.  The aim of CMC's involvement in this category is to encourage pianists to perform works by living Irish composers.  If you are interested in finding new piano repertoire, why not browse a range of repertoire in CMC's piano albums, available to purchase on CMC's website! Upcoming events in March  
PREMIERE: VAMPIRELLA BY SIOBHÁN CLEARY      
21-25 March 2017, Smock Alley Theatre, Temple Bar, 8pm 

The Royal Irish Academy of Music presents the world première of a new chamber  opera, Vampirella, by Irish composer Siobhán Cleary, inspired by a short story by Angela  Carter. P erformances will take place in Smock  Alley Theatre from the 21st-25th March. The opening night performance on Thursday 23rd March will be preceded by a panel discussion in CMC on 'Opera in Ireland in the 21st Century', featuring opera experts from the stage and from behind the scenes.
