Trio to Perform Beethoven, Brahms, Bazelaire, and Rachmaninoff

Friday, March 9, at 7:30pm, Concord Community Music School presents a Musicians of Wall Street Concert, "Music of Beethoven, Brahms, Bazelaire, and Rachmaninoff." Faculty members Kate Jensik (cello), Hannah Murray (soprano), and Abigail Charbeneau (piano) bring sweeping emotions and a remarkable musical intimacy to the lush harmonies of four classical composers. From Beethoven's beautiful musical conversation among the artists, to Rachmaninoff's wrenching vocal lamentation, to the sturm und drang of Brahms, to the festive Bazelaire finale, this deeply expressive trio weaves a romantic tapestry of sound that will break your heart, then heal it.

Latin American Guitar @ Free Bach's Lunches 3/1 & 8

Concord Community Music School presents two free Bach's Lunch programs in March, taking a deep dive into the fiery rhythms of Latin American guitar composition and performance.

Jose Lezcano
The month begins with "Spanish and Latin American and Guitar: The Hemiola as World Traveler," a Bach's Lunch Lecture with Dr. José Lezcano on Thursday, March 1, at 12:10pm. In this talk, accompanied by live and recorded music, Lezcano explores musical genres from Spain and Latin America that share a common rhythmic DNA -- the hemiola. Using examples from Renaissance and contemporary Spain, and from Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba, and other Latin American nations, Lezcano's narrative encompasses themes of migration, nostalgia, cultural memory, and the role of music in binding diasporic communities together.

David Ro
On Thursday, March 8, at 12:10pm, classical guitarist and Music School faculty member David Ross performs in a Bach's Lunch Concert, "Latin American Seasons: Music of Piazzolla, Brouwer, and Villa-Lobos," a program of Latin American music for solo guitar with works inspired by seasonal change. The program will juxtapose tangos by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla and preludes by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos with seasonally inspired works such as "Un Dia de Noviembre" by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer. Ross's program is part of a recording project for PARMA scheduled for an album release in September 2018.

Bach's Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month, November through May, in the Music School's Recital Hall, 23 Wall Street, downtown Concord.

"Music of the Americas" is the theme of this year's Bach's Lunch programs, which follows upon last year's series entitled "Musical Migrations." Throughout this year's series, programs will feature music of North, Central, and South America, reflecting the many cultural traditions present in the Western Hemisphere. As a member of the Steering Committee of Welcoming Concord, the Music School has multiple programs that advance the goal of warmly welcoming New Americans into the cultural, economic, and civic life of the region.
