Records _ Information Requests

On Feb. 12, we had the pleasure of welcoming to the Clerk's office two great grandchildren of Sam B. Woodring (1840-1899), a pioneer who homesteaded the land on Sanibel. Elizabeth Grossman Knight (center) was joined by her brother John O. Grossman and her daughter. They viewed the original Woodring plat on Sanibel as well as the homestead deed preserved by the Clerk's office for more than 130 years.

If you would like to view your family's records, check out our online Official Records Search or visit our Historical Document Library located in the Recording Office.
More than $97,000 is waiting to be claimed by citizens and companies at the Clerk's office. The extensive list of 1,589 unclaimed checks includes juror payments, cash bonds, utility deposits and credit balances, tax deed and foreclosure sales, and more. The deadline to claim the funds is March 25, and for cash bonds is Aug. 31.

Visit the Clerk's website for more information on the unclaimed funds and to see if you are on the list.
Love was in the air on Valentine's Day! A total of 28 couples came in the office to recite their vows and begin a new life together. Clerk Doggett officiated the wedding ceremony for Ashley Green and Christopher Hogu, pictured above with their family. Congratulations to all the newlyweds, and we wish you a lifetime of happiness.
Forty-eight citizens took advantage of our extended February hours to apply for their passports. The extended Saturday hours on Feb. 17 were also well received by families who need two parents present to apply for a child's passport.

We'll once again extend our hours for passport services until 6 p.m. from March 12-16. We'll also be open  for passport services from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.  Take advantage of this great service and start planning your summer trip abroad.
We're working hard for you! In February, representatives from our Recording Department came in to work on a Saturday to process passport applications. They also shared information about passport applications and the renewal process to hundreds of students and faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University. Being actively involved in our community helps keep you informed about our services and valuable workshops.
