Mr. Sanfilippo's Announcements    

Dear Families, 
 
Bassett's final Harvest Day was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who attended. Thank you to our staff and parent volunteers, to the student volunteers from WHS who helped with the games and activities, and to the Girl Scouts from LBMS who ran the beverage station. 

Finally, thank you to our PTA Harvest Day chairs, Elaine Alramahi and Michelle Shapiro, who coordinated the details of Harvest Day and worked so hard to make it a great event for our school!

4th Grade Testing: CogAT
4th grade students will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) on  October 15-17 for 45-50 minutes each day. Information was sent to parents last week and  is available  here



Math Club
Register now for  Bassett's Math Club! Math Club is a PTA-sponsored activity run by Mrs. Kowalski and other staff, as well as parent volunteers. 
 
Math Club is o pen to students in grades K-4 and will meet Thursdays, 2:20-3:20 pm on these dates: October 25; November 1, 8, 29; December 6, 13; January 10, 17, 24, 31.

TO SIGN UP FOR MATH CLUB:
  • Submit the permission slip with payment. (Please download the permission slip; it will not be sent home.)
There is a 20 student limit per grade level, so if you are interested, be sure to sign up  as soon as possible .

No School October 26
There is  no school for students  on Friday, October 26. It is a staff work day.

We are kicking off our sale of Westlake and Bassett spirit wear! Orders are due by Monday, October 29. See the article below for details.

Marco's Pizza Night
Save the date! Our first-ever Marco's Pizza night is  Tuesday, October 23. A flyer will be sent home this week with more details.

Fall Fundraiser Orders
If you participated in our Fall Fundraiser (gift wrap, holiday treats, cookie dough. etc.), please plan to pick up your order on Wednesday, October 24, 2:30-6:00 pm. in the Bassett gym. 


PTA Star Players
Congratulations to Michelle Shapiro and Elaine Alramahi, our 2nd and 3rd VPs, for being our Bassett PTA Star Players for October! 

Michelle and Elaine have been our Harvest Day chairs  for three years in a row! From organizing vendors, auction items, games, and volunteers, they have been hard at work this past month. Thank you for everything you do!
 
Michelle and Elaine will be recognized at the Westlake Council of PTAs meeting on Wednesday along with the star players from the other Westlake PTA units.

CEREAL & OATMEAL DRIVE
Oct. 15-19

THIS WEEK! The Westlake City Schools community is working together to fill an entire school bus with donations to support local families in need! Donations will benefit the May Dugan Center and Westlake Assistance. 

Bassett is collecting  CEREAL and
OATMEAL  during the week of October 15-19. 
 
Please make sure the boxes are unopened.

Collection bags will be  located at each classroom. The class that brings in the most items will receive a class reward.

REBATES CONTEST 
Ends Oct. 19

FINAL WEEK! Bassett's fall Rebates Contest runs through  Friday, October 19. We are collecting Box Tops for Education and Tyson A+ labels. The collection sheet is  here; you can also submit rebates in bags or envelopes.
  • The top two students who turn in the most rebate labels will be awarded a prize.
  • The top classroom to collect the most rebate labels will be awarded a classroom prize.
  • Students who turn in at least one collection sheet of ten labels will have their name entered in a prize drawing! 
Please make sure your child's name and homeroom teacher are clearly marked on the collection sheet, bag, or envelope.

Going on now!

Bassett PTA's spirit wear sale is going on now! This year our selection includes Westlake t-shirts & sweatshirts and commemorative Bassett t-shirts & sweatshirts.

SKATING PARTY FOR 
STUDENTS IN GRADES K-6
Friday, Oct. 26

Westlake Council of PTAs invites grades K-6 students at Bassett, Dover, Hilliard, Holly Lane, and Dover Intermediate to an ice skating party on Friday, October 26, 11:30 am-1:30 pm, at Rocky River Hamilton Ice Rink, 21018 Hilliard Blvd. 
(There is no school on October 26.)
 
Admission is $5 (cash only) and skate rental is $3.50 (or may bring own skates). This is  not a drop-off event - adult supervision is required.

REFLECTIONS
Creative Arts Contest
 
Students in all grades are invited to participate in Reflections! Reflections is an annual PTA-sponsored creative arts contest. This year's theme is,  Heroes Around Me
  • Categories include: visual arts, literature, photography, music composition, dance choreography, and film production.
  • The Reflections Quick Start flyer is here. This flyer provides guidelines for each category. The Reflections entry form is here.
  • Entries are due at the Bassett office by Monday, November 12.  

Artwork will be displayed at the Reflections Art Show on Thursday, November 29, 3:30-7:00 pm at Westlake Porter Public Library. There will be a Reflections awards ceremony in February.

WESTLAKE MUSIC BOOSTERS

Westlake Music Boosters supports Westlake Schools music programs and teachers from pre-K through 12th grade.
  • The Westlake High School fall instrumental concert is Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 pm at the Westlake Schools Performing Arts Center.
  • Westlake High School Varsity Football has a home game on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 pm. The WHS Marching Band, "The Pride of Westlake" will perform. Let's fill the stands and show our support!
  • Music Boosters' fundraiser with Landmark Lawn and Garden Supply runs through December 31.
