RAC Family,

We are almost finished with the first quarter of 2018! Are you keeping your eye on the prize?

Perhaps those New Year's resolutions are fading and you have ran into some hurdles thus far. You are certainly not the first to experience this, but don't let that cause your goals slip through the cracks. The one common denominator between all challenges and struggles, is they are inevitable. No one is immune to them.

You do not have to give in to your trials and tribulations. These circumstances are merely a test of your grit and strength. Empower yourself by responding to your situation with perseverance. Be proactive, not reactive.
Henry Ford quotes that "Obstacles are those frightening things that become visible when we take our eyes off our goals."

The key to overcoming your challenges is to keep striving forward. Y ou need both vision and action. Vision gives you the perspective lens to better understand your context. Action is the driving force that gets you to your destination. Vision without action is merely a dream, and action without vision just passes the time.

How does this apply to you and your goals here at RAC? Do you have that vision? Do you know the necessary actions it takes to accomplish your goals? We are here to help you every step of the way. Just in case you need some assistance though, we are now offering monthly challenges through our exclusive app! With completion of each challenge, you get a chance to win awesome prizes. Now you can literally keep your eye on the prize... See you out on the fitness floor,

Did You Know? - by Lynn Alberts
-A study was done in Australia by the Black Dog Institute finding that regular exercise of any intensity for 1 hour twice a week can prevent depression of all ages and genders.

- Which is best for preserving my muscle- cardio training or strength training?
A study was done at the Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. suggesting that Strength Training in combination with a healthy diet rich in veggies, protein and carbs helped preserve muscle mass. The study had 249 participants; groups of cardio with only a careful diet, strength training only, and diet only. The Strength Training and Diet groups lost the most fat while maintaining muscle, while the Cardio group lost more muscle mass.

-ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) recommends- To prevent weight gain: 150-250 minutes per week of moderate exercise, that is 50 minutes 3x - 5x per week. For weight loss: should exceed 250 minutes/week, at least 40 minutes per day.

Tot Tennis Tuesday
Here at RAC we have created a new class for kids ages 3-5 yrs. Tot Tennis is a 45 minute tennis class designed to introduce kids to the game and at the same time improve their hand eye coordination and overall movement.

Other cognitive development goals include color recognition, counting and number concepts, listening to instruction and following directions better.

Using low compression tennis balls, miniature courts, within a positive learning environment, your child will have fun and develop a love for the game.

Classes start Tuesday, April 3, so reserve your child's spot on the court. Space is limited.

For more information please contact our Tennis Director, Bobby Martinez, at [email protected]

Adult One Day Tourney Recap
A successful day of tournament play at our RAC Adult One Day Tourney on Saturday, February 17.

A handful of our in-house players as well as outside guests competed throughout the day in the 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 divisions. They played singles and doubles followed up by burgers, dogs, and hang time on the deck. No better way to spend a Saturday.

Those who won or got to the finals received gift cards from Courtside Tennis Apparal, our local sponsor. A big thanks to all those who participated, we're already looking forward to our Adult NTRP/Open early May.

Cheers!
H.S. Tennis Camp Recap
Such beautiful weather to host our President's Week High School Tennis Camp.

Both intermediate and advanced players from local High Schools came together here at Rollingwood.

From stroke development, live point play, and practice matches, these juniors were put in pressure situations that would be similar to their seasonal matches and weekend tournament play.

Best wishes to the junior boys in their upcoming season!
