Veterans Day Tribute to Our Members
|
|
On this Veterans Day, we sincerely thank all who’ve served or are serving in the United States military. Most of us have family members or friends who have served or are in military service currently. Last week, we asked our membership if they were veterans. We had some replies, although we are certain we have other Chamber members who are veterans. Please join us in gratefully acknowledging the service of these Batavia Chamber of Commerce members and representatives:

Meet Two of Our Members Who Focus on Veterans
We are a group of industry leaders who are volunteering time and efforts toward educating, consulting and advising our military personnel, both active duty and veterans, to what benefits may be available to them and how to maximize what they have earned. Through local VFW’s, American Legions, Chapters, local businesses, and community events we are putting together workshops to accomplish what is long overdue -- support and guidance for the backbone of our country...our soldiers. For more information, call (630) 881-5981.
Chamber member Batavia Overseas Post 1197, VFW, in Batavia Illinois has grown from a small group of men who met in Batavia City Hall in 1935 to become one of the nation's outstanding community veteran organizations. This has been accomplished due to the devotion, leadership, sacrifice and support of its members and the generous support of the community it serves. For more information, call (630) 879-9630.

In addition to their annual Adopt A Family program, Batavia United Way plans to help the senior citizens who live in the Riverain Apartments in downtown Batavia. Batavia Chamber of Commerce is one of the drop off locations. Read Batavia United Way's press release to learn what items to donate:
New this year is our goal to provide each low income senior citizen at Riverain in Batavia with a bag of their favorite, easy to prepare meals and treats. If you would like to help, simply purchase from this list and drop off at the designated location.

As usual, Mayor Schielke shared a wonderful account of what is going on around Batavia. We can't thank him enough! If you did miss the event, or wish to review all that the Mayor spoke about, Mark Foster of the Kane County Chronicle wrote a wonderful article following the event:
BATAVIA – Mayor Jeff Schielke touted the ongoing “massive revitalization” of downtown Batavia during a speech to business and civic leaders.
Schielke pointed to a proliferation of new restaurants and shops in the city’s central business district and previewed the anticipated redevelopment of many more downtown properties.
