With the new year comes a whole host of new music from Irish composers - Read on for more information on some of the most exciting contemporary music events this month including the beginning of the Contemporary Music Centre's Composer's Voice series for 2016!

The Contemporary Music Centre is proud to begin it's 2016 
Composer's Voice  series with two pre-concert talks in Dublin and Cork by composers Dylan Rynhart and Jane O'Leary. 

Listen At

Dylan Rynhart will speak at this month's Listen At music night in Bello Bar, Dublin at 7pm, 22 January. Dylan will speak on his work with speech melody and new works, to be performed by the Fuzzy Logic Ensemble immediatly afterwards Sue Rynhart (voice), Nick Roth (saxophones), Izumi Kimura (piano), Derek Whyte (bass) and Matt Jacobson (drums).

RTÉ ConTempo Quartet - "Twenty Recommended Quartets" Series

Composer Jane O'Leary will give a Composer's Voice talk on her new string quartet entitled "the passing sound of forever". This string quartet will be premiered by the RTÉ ConTempo String Quartet at  1pm, Saturday 30 Jan,  Triskel Arts Centre, Cork with a pre-concert talk from Jane. 

This concert will be followed by a second concert at 12pm, Sunday, 31 Jan, Hugh Lane Gallery.

Best Practice Session for Composers

Music Generation and The Contemporary Music Centre  are working together to develop a mutual understanding of best practice in relation to composers engaging with children and young people in a Performance Music Education context within Music Generation.

Composers and Music Generation musicians/coordinators are invited to attend a session to learn more about the residency-type composition projects which Music Education Partnerships around the country are developing and the work opportunities these present for composers.

Interview with Raymond Deane on The Alma Fragments (Premiere)

Ahead of its premiere by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra on 22 January 2016 at the National Concert Hall, Raymond Deane speaks about working on his new RTÉ commission, an orchestral suite based on his opera ' The Alma Fetish ' .
