$27M Grant Available
$27M Grant Available: Applications for $27M in funding from the VW Mitigation Trust will open on a first-come, first-served basis on August 18 at 1pm. Applicants must register before being able to apply, and registration is open now. The funding will be for Class 8 Freight, Waste, Dump and Concrete Mixer Trucks. Public and private fleets are eligible. This is a vehicle replacement program. The new Class 8 truck must be zero-emission, and the replaced truck must be scrapped. A [virtual] pre-application workshop will be held on August 12 at 10AM.

Sacramento Clean Cities Sponsors Make The News
Lion Electric Fully Electric Side Loader Refuse Trucks
Lion Electric, a Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition sponsor, has sold two fully electric side loader refuse trucks to Waste Connections. The vehicles have a 130 mile range, with a daily collection target of 1,200 homes. With no hydraulic systems, no oil changes and regenerative braking, these vehicles are expected to have 60% lower in-service maintenance costs.

US Gain Working with Anheuser Busch to Reduce Fleet Carbon Emissions
US Gain, a Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition sponsor, is part of a team working with the Anheuser Busch corporation to reduce their truck fleet carbon emissions by using Renewable Natural Gas in their heavy-duty trucks. US Gain is one of the largest suppliers of Renewable Natural Gas to California and to the rest of the US.

FreeWire Technologies Installs Their First DCFC Boost Charger
FreeWire Technologies, a Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition sponsor and manufacturer of the Mobi and Boost Charger EVSE, has installed their first commercial DCFC Boost Charger at an AM/PM store in Lodi, California. The Boost system uses an internal battery to build and store power between charging sessions.

US DOE Announced Launch of Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems
US Department of Energy (DOE), the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition’s organizing agency, has announced the launch of the Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems (ARIES) platform. ARIES will enable researchers to understand the technical, operational, and financial impacts of new technologies in a rapidly evolving energy system.

Hydrogen Supercar Will Begin Production in 2022
EV startup Hyperion is claiming that their “Supercar” the XP-1, will begin production in 2022. This will be an extremely limited production (300/year), super light-weight, two-seat fuel cell EV that will weigh only 2,275 pounds, go from zero to 60 in 2.2 seconds and have a range of 1,000 miles. While current fuel cell EVs use small battery packs to handle rapid changes in power demands, the XP-1 will use a weight-saving super capacitor.

Lucid is claiming that their Lucid Air EV will exceed 500 miles of range, made possible partly due to efficiency gains from a 900v integrated power architecture.

Rivian to Delay Production of EV Pickup
Rivian has announced that they will be delaying production and delivery of their electric pickup truck, the R1T until summer, 2021. They are moving more of their product development staff to California while beefing up their manufacturing staff at their production facility in Normal, Illinois, where they are also planning to manufacture their SUV, the R1S.

New Strategy To Increase EV Range
A new strategy for adding range to EVs is being developed by Chinese battery maker CATL. CATL is exploring using space for more batteries inside vehicle frames which they expect will bring EV range to over 500 miles.

Refineries Report
For the week ending 8/7/20, refineries in California produced 262,626 gallons of gasoline and 86,982 gallons of diesel. Gasoline production increased by 3.9% and diesel production increased by 17.6% from last week’s production numbers. The June 19 Western US inventory of propane product stood at 2,885,902 gallons at an average wholesale price of 59.84¢ per gallon.
