Living
in the Promise
of God's Abundance
From right to left, Susan Garsoe, Bill Carlson,
Steve Leisenring and Jack Sterling.
The pledge drive portion of our year-long stewardship effort will soon be upon us, which means we will all be hearing from our stewardship committee. Who are these people and what motivates them to take this on? We on your stewardship committee thought it would be a good start for our pledge drive to introduce ourselves by way of providing our own individual ‘giving story’. This is the first of our weekly introductions.

Family Promise/IHN Update
|
|
Chapel of Our Saviour will host area homeless families for the second time this year October 28-November 4 in our Parish House classrooms and offices. We will offer a warm place to sleep, nutritious meals, comfort, and lots of love. Approximately 50 parishioners are needed to care for and feed our guests. Please prayerfully consider opening your hearts to the last and the least of our community. Volunteer opportunities include making and serving meals, spending time in the evening with families, sleeping over, doing laundry, setting up and dismantling bedrooms. Sign up will begin in early September.
Also, Family Promise-IHN is holding its annual Family Promise Walk Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Registration and gathering is at 1:00 the walk begins at 1:30pm. This fundraiser raises money to support current families and FP-IHN programs. If you are interested in walking or being a team captain, please contact IHN Volunteer Coordinator, Patty Smith at 719 649-1988 or [email protected] for more information.
The Family Promise Day Center is always in need of housewares and linens. After successfully completing the program, families either move into transitional or permanent housing, and need household staples to make their house into a home. The Day Center, located at 519 N. Tejon St., will graciously accept your gently used goods.
Thank you all, for the myriad ways in which you are God's hands on earth, in our community.

A MESSAGE FROM SARAH
Chapel has moved to a new kind of church record keeping solution called Realm®. It primarily serves the administrative needs of our staff, but it also offers some exciting opportunities to make it easier for our church family to connect with each other, keep up with what’s going on, and grow as a connected community of believers.
We invite you to explore Realm and set up a login where you can begin to get familiar with it's many features.
Let's Get Started.

Music Notes
- Choir rehearsals. Thursdays at 7:00 pm. Come try us out! Reading music is not a requirement, nor is having a strong voice. You just need a heart for leading the worship music on Sunday mornings.
- New opportunities: Children's Choir, 2nd - 5th grade, on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:15. Email Bonnie for more information.
- Beginning Handbell Choir. If you would like to learn to ring, talk with Bonnie. You do not need to read music. A smidgen of eye-hand coordination is helpful. This would be an inter-generational opportunity.

Harvest Sunday Celebration
Please mark your calendars. On September 16 we will celebrate God’s bounty through a special worship service that includes collection of fresh produce. Please bring fresh vegetables and fruit to the church services to place at the altar. The produce will be donated to Westside CARES food pantries to help our neighbors in need. Our goal this year is to donate 2,000 pounds of fresh produce.
Volunteers Needed – Monday after Harvest Sunday September 17
On Monday morning, (September 17), we need to transport the produce collected on Harvest Sunday to four Westside CARES food pantries. Specially, we need volunteers who have vehicles with cargo capacity to haul the produce to one of four food pantries in Colorado Springs as well as volunteers to load the produce. Please contact Mary Beth Shively if you are willing to help.

B Street Food Pantry -Bring a Can
Tom is a sixty-something widower who lost his wife to cancer. When she passed, Tom also took over the job of raising his 3 grandchildren – the youngest is one year old. Tom’s job as a pizza delivery person barely allows him to make ends meet. Sometimes, he just needs a helping hand. Luckily, B Street Food Pantry is there to help. Your donations are vital to helping people like Tom. Thru B Street Pantry, a satellite of Westside CARES, he can obtain a four-day food supply up to six times per year. If each family brings a can this month, we will help many like Tom. On Sunday, please put your donation in the basket by the baptismal font. Otherwise, the little red wagon will be just inside the main door of the Parish House and donations may always be dropped off there.
* Sundays
– bring a can

Thanks to the incredible generosity of those who donated, we were able to
provide 3,000 diapers
to families in need through Westside CARES! Diapers are always appreciated as they cannot be purchased with Food Stamps.
A very special thanks to Audra Ruffenach and the members of the Outreach Committee for organizing and putting on the event.
