REALM UPDATE
The results are in! The REopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums (REALM) Project has published the third round results of laboratory testing on how long COVID-19 can live on five plastic-based materials commonly found in libraries. After five days of quarantine in an unstacked configuration, results show the virus was not detectable on storage bags or DVDs, but it was detectable on storage containers, plexiglass and USB cassettes.
Did you miss last week's ULC webinar on REALM Updates & Communication Strategies? View the recording to learn more about the REALM project and how to use its data to communicate with stakeholders about the library's safety response during the pandemic. Presenters included ULC President and CEO Susan Benton, Columbus Metropolitan Library Marketing Director Gregg Dodd and OCLC's REALM Program Manager Kendra Morgan.

Two additional ULC libraries have joined the Fine Free movement and reduced access barriers by eliminating overdue materials fines. Read the linked announcements below to learn more about these ULC member libraries who are now fine free.

“By eliminating fines, nearly 10,000 library users will be able to check out library materials again and take advantage of all that our award-winning libraries have to offer,” said Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway.

“Eliminating fines allows PPL to realize our long-term goal to best implement the core values of librarianship – the unfettered access to all the library can offer,” said Executive Director Sarah Campbell.
