Remembering Linda Ruth Marshall, MD
June 1949 - August 2018
Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Lind Marshall
attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and practiced pediatrics in Glennallen, Alaska
. Later she and her husband Gary lived much of their adult lives in Virginia but retired in recent years to Gainesville, Florida, to be closer to family.
Dr. Marshall was a long-time member of the American College of Pediatricians
. She had a passion for Christ, life, children, and mission work. She served on the Board of Global Health Outreach in Bristol, Virginia, and the Board of Koinonia Ministries in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Marshall participated in no less than 19 medical mission teams all over Latin America and her final medical ministry was as a physician for a free clinic in Galax, Virginia
.
She was a blessing and she was beloved by all who had the privilege to meet her. May she rest in peace.

Try these 20 conversation starters with your family
Tired of getting one word answers from your kids when you ask them about their day? Tired of not having much of anything to say when you're out with your spouse because phones intrude on your opportunity to reconnect?
If so, try something ACPeds member Dr. Thomas Lickona refers to as "Back-and-forth Questioning." Ask your child or spouse something like
"What did you get done this week that you feel good about?"
or
"What have you been thinking about this week that we haven’t had a chance to talk about?"
and after they respond, tell them it's their turn to ask you a question.

Research shows that being able to make conversation is a skill that can make any relationship better. Here are some more conversation starters you may want to begin using with your family:
- What are you grateful for today?
- What’s some good news you’d like to share?
- What’s something you’re looking forward to?
- What’s something you’re worried about?
- What do you like most about being part of this family?
- If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?

Sexual Health Awareness Month: Vote for a say in YOUR child's sex ed
|

In honor of September as Sexual Health Awareness Month, p
lease join dozens of child education and pro-life organizations in appealing to President Trump to replace federally-funded Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) also known as the "Teen Prevention Program" with Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) Education.
|
|
While
CSE programs teach children they have the “right” to sex and often include sexually graphic content which stimulates brain development towards sexual excitement
rather than towards critical thinking, Sexual Risk Avoidance education teaches children the value in abstaining from sex until marriage.
SRA encourages kids and teens to tap into their ability to choose quality friendships and non-sexual relationships
as well as practical strategies and principles for avoiding risks such as sexually transmited infections (STIs), including potentially lethal STIs such as HIV and cancer-causing HPV.

Through CSE indoctrination in our schools, children as early as kindergarten are convinced that they have “rights” to sexual pleasure, rather than health risks to avoid. So please,
copy this letter found on the
Family Research Council website
, sign it, and send it to the President of the United States.
Exercise your right as an American citizen to stop CSE from fueling the sexual exploitation of minors and the skyrocketing rates of STI diagnoses among our youth.

New addition to the ACPeds Medical Ethics Page
The new eugenics claims that it will create better opportunities for children and that it is based on good science and individual consent. The old eugenics was unscientific, concerned with the improvement of the race, and coercive.
But is the new eugenics really free of coercion? Those who choose not to enhance might be considered unsatisfactory parents, who are not acting in the best interests of their children. Unenhanced children could place a larger financial burden on society. The social pressure on these parents could eventually lead them to consent to their child’s enhancement.
The old eugenics tried to improve the species by encouraging the reproduction of persons with desirable genetic traits and discouraging the reproduction of undesirables. The new eugenics views genetic selection as an improvement on Darwin’s natural selection. But don’t they have fundamentally the same aims: the development of a superior individual and the consequent elimination of those considered inferior?

**ACPeds 3rd annual joint conference with AAPLOG - April 5-7**
The
conference
, co-hosted by the
American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs
and sponsored by Alliance Defending Freedom and the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, will take place next year from
Friday, April 5th to Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at Marian University Medical School in Indianapolis, IN
.
This conference brings together prolife researchers, physicians, medical students, medical residents and policy makers for an educational seminar. Covering the most important topics of the year in life issues--
from maternal mortality to sex ed, from adolescent decision-making to reversing RU-486--
this conference will equip you to tackle the difficult questions facing your practice, patients and loved ones.
As usual, the ACPeds annual board meeting with take place the same weekend of the conference on Thursday, April 4th (and part of the 5th) just prior to the start of the conference.
