On Thursday, August 30th, I held a community meeting at the Willow Glen Community Center about public safety with residents from Districts 6 and 9 in attendance. BBQ In the Glen
Saturday, September 22nd
12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The 3rd Annual Willow Glen BBQ in the Glen is a community event featuring amateur and professional BBQ teams competing for pride and prizes. The community gets the opportunity to sample the finished product, while enjoying an afternoon of music, kids' court, beer and wine. 

Taking place during the hours of 12pm - 4pm, the festival is located in the same location as last year, the Bank of America parking lot, at 1245 Lincoln Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. Within the festival area is: a main stage for announcing the competition winners, approximately 20-30 enclosed food booths and cooking areas for the contestants, 2-3 drink booths serving beer, local wine, and soda/water, up to six sponsor booths, and two information/ticket sales boots.

The Rose, White and Blue Parade Board

The Rose, White and Blue Parade is accepting nominations for community members to be on the board. We are especially looking for people with experience in Non-profit organizing, parades, staging, event management, marketing, and/or knows   how to throw a really awesome party! The ideal candidates will have connections within the greater San Jose community and its organizations. We are especially looking for diverse candidates. Three Creeks Trail Ceremony

On August 25th, we celebrated the re-opening of the Three Creeks Trail. Thank you to all of the residents who attended the celebration. You can view the ceremony here.

Easy & Free to Get Rid of Your Junk

Residents in single-family homes can have large items (such as mattresses, sofas, refrigerators, tires, and more) picked up curbside by their recycling collection company. Each pickup includes up the three large items. 

Call you recycling company to get a date for your pickup. To find your recycling collection company, please use the Residential Services Lookup.

Easy to Build a Granny Unit (ADU)

San José has eased the rules for building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), also called a granny unit or secondary unit. Lots as small as 3,000 square feet with a single-family home qualify.

You can obtain a no-fee evaluation of your property and project idea from a City planner. Simply bring the ADU-Secondary Unit Review Worksheet to the Permit Center at City Hall (validated parking available).

Leading Climate Innovation - The Silicon Valley Way

This one-day event, complementing the Global Climate Action Summit hosted in San Francisco, will highlight private sector and public-sector climate leadership in Silicon Valley to a global audience. In addition to sharing best practices and thought leadership from the region, participants will re-commit to existing climate goals, and announce ambitious new targets to advance the global climate agenda.

 Elmo & Grover In the Park

Join the Santa Clara Valley Water District's education outreach team and learn about conservation through a fun puppet show involving Elmo and Grover. Enjoy five separate acts as you learn about picking up litter, recycling, planting trees, reusing old things in a new way and saving water. Following the puppet show, learn more about water conservation, rebates for home conservation improvements, and upcoming workshops.

Visit Old Fire Station One, home of the San Jose Fire Museum. We are in the process
of restoring this historic Downtown Fire Station.

* We will share with you the first floor remodel including early display designs.
* Take a peek at the upstairs where the dorms & locker rooms are located. They are not yet
remodeled so you get a glimpse of the what the station looked like when it closed in 2001.
* We can share with you our Capital & Endowment Campaign Including exciting renderings that  provide our vision of the future of Historic Old Fire Station One.

Parking is available at Market & San Pedro Square Parking Garage.  No parking available in the backyard of Old Fire Station One.

 Viva CalleSJ

Viva CalleSJ's route will take participants through some of San Jose's most eclectic and historic neighborhoods. The open street events brings people and communities together to walk, bike, skate, play and explore the city like never before!

It's not a race, so you can start anywhere and have as much as you want, in either direction!
