Membership Renewal: Why it Matters
Making sure our member networking opportunities are top-notch
 One of the biggest benefits of belonging to the WI Cancer Council are the networking opportunities we offer with other cancer control professionals across Wisconsin. Exciting work is happening in every corner of the state, and we're honored to be able to connect our members with successful efforts and best practices they can replicate in their own communities. Interested in partnering with another organization? Want to learn from someone else's success? The WI Cancer Council has you covered.
One way we do this is by keeping up-to-date information about what our members are doing and which parts of the
WI CCC Plan
they are working on. To do this, we occasionally ask our members to renew their Council membership. This ensures our
members-only Networking Directory
is accurate, and it means we're able to connect you with the right experts when you come to us with questions.
If you joined the WI Cancer Council prior to Jan. 1, 2018, you should have received an email last week, inviting you to
renew your membership
. The process is simple -- it takes just 5-10 minutes -- and can be done online. If you're planning to attend the
2018 WI Cancer Summit
on Nov. 15, you can even take care of renewing your membership when you
register
.

Biden Cancer Community Summit
Join us Sept. 21 for a special celebration of cancer innovation in WI
 The Biden Cancer Initiative has issued a call to action: Let's double the rate of progress in cancer prevention, treatment, and care. On Sept. 21, leaders from across the country will answer that call by coming together for a series of Biden Cancer Community Summits. Will you join us?
We are partnering with Gilda's Club Madison and the American Cancer Society to host a Biden Cancer Community Summit that celebrates cancer treatment innovation in Wisconsin. We're focusing on what we can do to deliver what patients deserve: a cancer research and care system that puts saving and extending lives above all else.

HPV ACTION PLAN UPDATE
The HPV Roundtable was a Success!
Promoting innovative strategies to increase vaccination rates in WI
 Experts from around the state convened Sept. 5 in Madison to discuss how to increase HPV vaccination rates in the state of Wisconsin. While rates have been slowly increasing, we still have quite a way to go toward our Plan target of 80% vaccination completion by 2020.
HPV Roundtable participants enjoyed lively discussions to brainstorm innovative strategies, and then prioritized key strategies to help focus efforts. These recommendations will be reviewed and incorporated into the WI Cancer Council's
Action Plan to increase HPV vaccination completion rates
.
This collaborative process would not have been possible without the participation and planning efforts of many partner organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the WI Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Wisconsin Immunization Program, UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and the Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).

Alcohol Policy Seminar: Oct. 10th
Interested in learning more about alcohol policy in Wisconsin?
Come to the 2018 Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Seminar, October 10, 2018 at the Kalahari Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. This
is the only event in Wisconsin dedicated entirely to evidence-based policies and practices that reduce excessive drinking.
This jam-packed, one-day Seminar will include sixteen workshops on topics related to alcohol and public policy, including a session on the cancer risks of excessive drinking by our very own Courtney Harris. The Seminar is designed for all who work in public health, law enforcement, and community coalitions.
Registration is $125 and includes all sessions, meals, and conference materials.

SCREENING ACTION PLAN UPDATE
Let's Talk About Cancer Screening Disparities
About 30 WI Cancer Council members came together last month for the Council's first Screening Disparities Networking Webinar, featuring Sarah Francois from Progressive Community Health Centers in Milwaukee.
Sarah shared details about Progressive's efforts to increase colon cancer screening rates from 46% to 61% in just two years. Way to go, Progressive! If you missed the call but would like to learn more, you can view the recording and slides.
The Screening Disparities Networking Webinars are offered in support of the WI Cancer Council's Screening Disparities Action Plan. The Webinars provide an opportunity for members to learn more about the great work happening in Wisconsin, as well as a chance to connect with colleagues across the state.
The next Webinar is scheduled for December 11 at 10 am. It will feature a presentation by awardees of our recent Screening Disparities RFP and will allow plenty of time for discussion. Watch your inbox for log-in details as the time nears.
