ANNOUNCEMENTS
Campus Programming and the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement are hosting the documentary screening "Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. Novian Whitsitt, Luther professor of Africana studies and English, will lead a discussion after the screening.
Accidental Courtesy is a 2016 documentary that follows Daryl Davis, a black musician, as he meets and befriends members of the Ku Klux Klan.  
The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle 1:00-4:00 p.m. on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24.  THIS IS A CHANGE! This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register  here. Students should meet in front of the Union. All times subject to change or times cancelled due to low numbers or other unexpected circumstances or bad weather. The next shopping shuttle is not until Saturday, March 17!
 
Philosophy Club Presents: Second Annual Daniel H. Andreotti Memorial Debate -"Is a Government's Primary Moral Obligation to Its Own Citizens or the People of the World?" Students Nazai Dos Santos '19, Rebecka Green '19, Ismail Hamid '19, and Minh Anh Nguyen '20 formally debate this ethical question.  
Moderated by Max Eness '20 and sponsored by the CEPE and Philosophy Department. Wednesday, February 28, 7:00 p.m., Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. Reception to follow.

French Film Series : This semester, we highlight interactions among people of different classes and ethnic groups. Les Femmes du 6e Etage    (translated as Service Entrance ) deals with immigration in the 1960s. It is a comedy that contrasts the world of the French bourgeoisie and that of their Spanish domestic servants. The film is in French and Spanish with English subtitles. All are welcome to attend. Formed on the fundamentals of memory and diversity, Duo MemDi will take the stage at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 25, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall. This Faculty Artist Series is performed by Luther College Assistant Professor of Music Igor Kalnin, violin, and Rochelle Sennet, pianist and associate professor of piano at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Luther is piloting the campus-wide Lynda.com product called LyndaCampus. Visit  lynda.luther.edu and sign in with your Norse Key username and password. Calling All Sophomores! Interested in becoming more involved as a member of the student body? Student Senate is looking for a sophomore class representative to serve for this spring. Student Senate  is working on putting together a student mission statement. We would like to extend a hand to any student who would like to be a part of this process. Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays. 2018 AEI Summer Honors Program is for top undergraduate students. Participate in intensive, fully-funded public policy seminars in Washington, DC.  Four courses offered through the Values & Capitalism initiative exploring topics of international development, the morality of capitalism, American foreign policy, and First Amendment constitutional law-from a distinctly Christian perspective. Application deadlineMonday, March 5. RERUNS
Pedro dos Santos and student Asha Aden will deliver the lecture, "What's to be Done? Humanizing the Syrian Refugee Crisis" on Tuesday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m.
in the CFL Recital Hall. As a daughter of two Somali refugees, Asha  will share her experiences growing up as part of a Somali refugee community in an American city, contextualizing the humanity of refugees and connecting to the current Syrian crisis. Reception to follow in Qualley Lounge.

Luther College alumnae Beth Ray Westlund, mezzo soprano, and Ann Elise Schoenecker, soprano, will present a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 23, in the Noble Recital Hall, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Ethnic Arts Festival is Saturday, March 3, 2:00-5:00 p.m., in the Center for the Arts. The online meal registration is open! Tickets are $12, register now by clicking here. Deadline for registering is Wednesday, February 28, so be sure to sign up today! There is no charge for the 7:00 p.m. evening performances in the Center for Faith & Life.

OFF-CAMPUS STUDY APPLICATIONS DUE MARCH 1!  Thinking of studying abroad or elsewhere in the U.S. during summer 2018, fall 2018, spring 2019 or the 2018-19 year? If so, you need to complete a Luther application by March 1, in some cases earlier.  Fill out this form  to request the appropriate application
 and/or to talk about your plans!

Looking for a place to volunteer? Sign up to help package food for the Caf to Community program. On Sundays (6:30-8:00 p.m.) and Wednesdays (7:00-8:30 p.m.) throughout the school year we package up extra food from the cafeteria and donate to First Lutheran Food Pantry. Volunteering lasts usually for an hour and a half (or until food runs out). Questions about the program? Email Sarah. 
 
The Diversity Center has In-Town Bus tickets from the Northeast Iowa Community Action Transit system, available for $2 per ride. This includes the immediate town and as far as Walmart. It's a good deal - come buy yours at the Luther Diversity Center. Cash only, while they last. Students are responsible for scheduling their own rides with the transit.


Luther College was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Roy J.  Carver Charitable Trust to enhance curriculum and provide educational laboratory experiences for students in the new neuroscience major.
