Spirit of Beacon Photo Show
Reception Saturday, 5-7:30pm

Join us this Saturday as we kick off the Spirit of Beacon celebration! HPL and the Spirit of Beacon Committee asked the community to submit photos they felt captured the essence of the "Spirit of Beacon." More than 30 local photographers answered the call. Stop by the library on Saturday evening to see their collective portrait of our wonderful little city.

The photo exhibit will be on view until October 7th.

Do you like to wax poetic? You could be the next Beacon Poet Laureate! So what exactly does the Poet Laureate do? The Beacon Poet Laureate will act as an advocate for poetry, on behalf of the City of Beacon, by promoting and emphasizing the importance of poetry in our community. The selected Beacon Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term (January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2020.)

The deadline to receive the completed application package is September 7, 2018.

The Beacon Poet Laureate Nominating Committee will review all submissions and select a Beacon Poet Laureate. The name of the selected poet will be announced on a date to be determined in November 2018. Find the application and all the details at www.beaconlibrary.org.

Is Self-Publishing for You?
Exploring the
Opportunities & Obstacles
Thursday, Oct. 13th, 6:30-7:30pm

The process of getting a book proposal accepted by a traditional publisher can feel like a grueling process, although not without its rewards. But there is another route, growing more popular and accepted in the publishing community: author-publishing (i.e. self-publishing). If you have ever considered following this road, please join local author-publishers Jennifer Clair and Lauree Ostrofsky as they share what they've learned through the creation, distribution, and marketing of their non-fiction books.
Jennifer is a chef and the author of "Six Basic Cooking Techniques: Culinary Essentials for the Home Cook" and Lauree is the author of two self-help books titled "Simply Leap: Seven Lessons on Facing Fear and Enjoying the Crap out of Your Life" and "I'm Scared & Doing It Anyway."

Copies of these books will be on hand for sale and signing. This is a free event and no registration is required.
