False Flag: The Space Between Paranoia and Reason at Franklin Street Works
in Stamford, Connecticut through January 6, 2019

Franklin Street Works
Still from Theodore Darst, The Tourist: This Machine Makes Fascists (Soundtrack by Kevin Carey), 2017, 11 minute HD Video loop, cargo straps, mounting equipment, dimensions variable, edition of 3 + 2 artist proofs.

Franklin Street Works is showing False Flag: The Space Between Paranoia and Reason through January 6, 2019. Throughout the year Franklin Street Works brings exhibitions to explore contemporary art and curatorial practices today and often aim to prompt discussions about issues surrounding art and social systems. The current exhibition title, False Flag: The Space Between Paranoia and Reason, refers to "false flags," or situations where a segment of the population accuses the government of staging a traumatic event in order to push an agenda. With videos, sculptures, paintings and photographs the exhibiting artists allow the viewer to formulate their own view of the contemporary and vast subject matter of paranoia, philosophical position, and psychological state. As exhibition curator Jeff Ostergren, New Haven based artist says, "Paranoia can be seen as both a cause and a symptom of our current anxiety, manifested through competing narratives in the political, social, and environmental." The exhibiting artists are Darja Bajagić, James Benning, Theodore Darst, Violet Dennison, Michael Green, Mark Flood, Juliana Huxtable, Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, Daniel Keller, Son Kit, Tim Trantenroth, and Melvin Way. Franklin Street Works is located at 41 Franklin Street in Stamford, Connecticut and is open Thursday⎻Sunday 12:00 p.m.⎻5:00 p.m. For more information, please visit http://www.franklinstreetworks.org/exhibition/false-flag-space-paranoia-reason/.
