After so many things being cancelled this year, I was excited to be watching the Fourth of July fireworks with my family. I greatly appreciate our city leaders orchestrating this coordinated display so we could enjoy while still being effectively socially distanced! My thoughts and prayers continue to be with those most impacted by the virus through the health and economic challenges that our community is facing, and I continue to be so encouraged to see how folks are stepping up to help one another during this ongoing crisis.
As we talk about a potential to “back to normal” , we have to recognize that this crisis has shed a new spotlight on the fact that “normal” wasn’t working for millions of people, and old and broken systems won’t fix those challenges. We need to re-imagine a new normal that results in more equitable and resilient communities. The tough work that will be needed to help us recover is the very work United Way does every day:
·
We help feed those facing food insecurity.
·
We prepare children for success in school, work and life.
·
We connect those in financial distress with resources to pay bills and
stay in their homes.
·
We advocate for a better life for ALL in our community with equitable
treatment.
As we fight for the health, education and financial stability of EVERY person in our community, we know THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER. We ask for your help as we continue to respond to this ongoing crisis, recover and rebuild our community.
United We're Strong,
Danelle Glasscock
