This Week at Chapel of Our Saviour
October 7, 2018 - Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost
|

Things
are
Cookin' !
One of the many things that the members of Chapel of Our Saviour do well is get together and eat. The many parishioners who attended the Pignic last Saturday can attest to this from first-hand experience. The array of dishes, desserts, and beverages provided by our congregation was a veritable feast.
As always the pig was cooked to delicious perfection, thanks primarily to Birdie Lowery. This year his culinary skills were enhanced by the addition of a large, extraordinary, self-constructed smoker. If you have not had the chance to check out this impressive grill, please see the attached photo or wander over to the west side of the parish house and check it out for yourself. It was conceived, designed, materials procured, and constructed by members of this parish at essentially no cost to the church. Many thanks to Guy Theriot, Birdie Lowery, and Chris Ploegsma for their significant efforts in making this dream reality (and for the hearty feast it produced!). Be sure to say thanks when you see them for their commitment to this parish.

Fall Community Dinners
The Fall Stewardship Campaign will be kicked off with a series of fun dinners. Every member of the congregation will be invited to one of the dinners, to be held in the homes of the Stewardship Committee, the Vestry, the Finance Committee.
All the dinners will be held in October, to coincide with the Stewardship Campaign, and to be completed by November 7, the Celebration Day to end the campaign.
Invitations will come along at random intervals as we complete dinners and as we make sure that everyone can attend. Be assured that you will have a place at the table.

Welcome Mary Bach
Hi! My name is Mary Bach and I’m very excited to be a part of Chapel of Our Saviour; from what I know so far, I can tell it’s a close community of wonderful people.
I attended St. John’s Cathedral in Denver for as much of my childhood as I can remember. Growing up in the Episcopal church, I was raised on a steady diet of Godly Play and weekly youth group.
I completed the Colorado Youth Leadership Initiative (COYLI), and attended the bi-annual Quest retreats, both of which helped to form my faith and Episcopal identity. I have also attended and worked at the Episcopal camps up at Cathedral Ridge for as long as they’ve been around (circa 2012) and before.
From flash mobs in front of the Bishop, to tie-dye (my personal passion),
to waking up
at 3am
to the fire alarm going off because it needed new batteries, nothing has been more important to my life and my faith than Cathedral Ridge. This summer, I was given the opportunity to be the camp director, and work alongside Mother Krista and a wonderful staff of counselors and CITs to make camp happen for a new group of young Episcopalians.
Currently, I am a sophomore at Colorado College and work as an intern in the Chaplain’s Office, where I help to plan events primarily focused around interfaith text studies and interfaith prayer. While I haven’t decided on a major, I’m thinking of pursuing either religion or foreign languages, or maybe a dangerous combination of the two. In my free time, I love hiking, reading, and learning new languages (I’m currently working on Spanish, Latin, Hebrew, and ASL). I am thrilled that my faith journey has led me to Chapel of our Saviour and I can’t wait to meet everyone!
I hope you will join me in welcoming Mary this Sunday.
She will be working with us this fall to further enhance and strengthen our growing children and youth ministry programs. Welcome Mary! -David

The 131st Annual Convention
of the Episcopal Church in Colorado
On October 26 and 27, Chapel of Our Saviour will send 5 delegates and 1 alternate delegate to attend the 131
st
Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Colorado.
At this year’s convention, the 11
th
Bishop of Colorado will be elected. More information about the bishop candidates is included below.
Our delegates to the convention are Meagan Cheney, Deborah Lowery, Susan Garsoe, Jack Sterling and Birdie Lowery. Guy Theriot is our alternate delegate in the event that one of our delegates cannot attend. These delegates were appointed, in accordance with the bylaws of the parish, by the Priest-in-Charge. In so doing Rev. Dill, in consultation with our Senior Warden Jack Sterling, sought delegates that would represent a broad cross-section of the congregation: early service attenders as well as later; families and empty nesters; long time members and newer members; male and female; and all of them active and vital participants in the many ministries ongoing here at Chapel. David and Krista will also attend the convention as clergy delegates and will also vote in the bishop election.
Between now and the convention, we hope that you will take some time to connect with all of those who will be taking part in the convention and election and share with them your questions and prayerful thoughts about what the next bishop might bring to our congregations.

Parents of Young & Young-ish Children
Being a parent is one of the most profound practices of love we may experience. It is also one of the most challenging experiences life may bring. The support of a church community full of other parents helps us grow as individuals and provides support in this holy life work. This small group will be a time to reflect with other parents and grow in prayerful community.

Please prayerfully consider opening your hearts to the last and the least of our community. Volunteer opportunities include making and serving meals, spending time in the evening with families, sleeping over, doing laundry, setting up and dismantling bedrooms. 8@6 Dinners
What’s 8@6? It is an evening of fellowship with others from Chapel of Our Saviour. It is an opportunity to enjoy a pot luck dinner with about 8 participants at 6 pm on a Saturday evening in a home. Those who enjoyed these dinners last year asked if we could plan four dinner this year, so here are the dates:
November 3, January 12, March 2, and May 4.
We need a few hosts for each evening, who will plan the dinner and provide the main course. They will get in touch with those who will join them. Others will bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert. While the food is always delicious, the fellowship is even more delightful. These dinners are a wonderful way to get to know other parishioners in a social setting. We especially encourage those who are new to Chapel to join us for the opportunity to meet others.
There is a sign-up sheet for the November 3 dinner in the narthex of the church. Those who sigh up can expect a call the Sunday or Monday before the dinner. Please come and join us!
Questions? Please call Linda Rowe 459-8698.

Responding to Hurricanes
Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) invites you to partner with them as they support dioceses that are preparing to respond to hurricanes and other tragic storms. ERD responds to storms in the United States through partnerships with Episcopal dioceses. Their US Disaster team offers resources and training to help people prepare for disasters and provide emergency support so those most impacted can make a sustained recovery after the storm. The benefit of partnership with Episcopal churches is that these congregations are already deeply integrated within their communities - they are there before responders arrive and will remain long after the news cameras have gone. On Friday, September 14, Hurricane Florence made landfall. More than 35 inches of rain fell in parts of North Carolina. Major flooding continues throughout the Carolinas and southern Virginia. In North Carolina, local officials believe tens of thousands of homes have been damaged so far, with weeks of challenges on the horizon. ERD is responding in a variety of ways. For example, ERD partnered with the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, to provide emergency assistance to migrant and seasonal farmworkers including water, food, cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, clothing and transportation to safe locations in two counties in eastern North Carolina. Please continue to pray for those impacted by Hurricane Florence. Donations to the Hurricane Relief Fund will help Episcopal Relief & Development respond to this crisis. Your donation will meet urgent needs by providing critical supplies such as food, water and other basics and will help ERD to provide long-term assistance as needed.
