WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT EXPANSION COMPLETED  ON TIME AND ON BUDGET

LWP celebrated the completion of the City's largest capital improvement project at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

Learn more  about the expansion celebration and the improvements that took nearly four years to complete.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The  Wastewater Treatment Plant Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) and Digester Improvements project evolved through the need to meet three main objectives:
  • Meeting regulatory requirements for the reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus released to the Big Thompson River.
  • Increasing capacity to meet population growth. The plant will be re-rated from 10 million gallons per day (MGD) to 12 MGD allowing for an additional 15 to 20 years of growth
  • Replacement of aging infrastructure
The project utilized the Collaborative Project Delivery model referred to in the industry as Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMaR).

WHAT'S NEXT?
New Water Quality Laboratory Coming Summer 2020.

The City currently has two water quality labs that are State Certified by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). The Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab (1,170 square feet) was constructed in 1974, and the Water Treatment Plant Lab (125 square feet) was constructed in 1981. The proposed project would construct an 8,000 square foot laboratory building on the grounds of the wastewater treatment plant and will serve the functions of both water and wastewater laboratory needs.
