THE NEW SAFEGUARDING STANDARD

In an attempt to streamline the return of classes and events when we are permitted to do so, Water Safety Ireland has developed a new Online Safeguarding Training module which will be mandatory for all members to complete. This training will ensure that when our activities resume, members of our organisation will be fully trained in best Safeguarding practices.

From the 1 st  of July 2020, it will be mandatory for all members to complete the new Online Safeguarding Training.

We are circulating this document to provide you with the necessary steps to complete this stage of the training.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • I have already completed the Tusla “Children First”  training through work/another organisation, do I need to complete it again for Water Safety Ireland?

Candidates Tusla “Children First” certificates will only be accepted if the date of course completion is less than one year old. Certificates with dates of completion older than one year will not be accepted, and the candidate will need to complete the Tusla training again.

  • I have already completed the WSI Online Safeguarding Training process, must I complete it again?

Even if you have completed the new process already, after the July 1 st  2020, it will be mandatory to complete the process again. The programme has undergone a number of revisions, and we want to ensure everyone is trained to the same standard.  However, Tusla “Children First” certificates will still be accepted if the date of course completion is less than one year.

  • How long is the new safeguarding training valid for?

As the Water Safety Ireland’s Child Safeguarding Training is a two stage process, certificates will be valid for three years from the date of completion of the Tusla “Children First” course.
