For those that may not already know this, Lago Vista High School (LVHS) has an amazing Floral Design program led by Sheryl Standiford. We had a chance to find out more about this hands-on, rewarding program and how it is designed to benefit students and even allow them to earn state certification.
Advanced Floral Design focuses on building skills in advanced floral design and providing students with a thorough understanding of the design elements and planning techniques used to produce unique specialty floral designs. Through the analysis and evaluation, the design needs and expectations of clients are explored and appropriate creations are proposed and evaluated.

From conception to evaluation, students are challenged to create and design appropriate specialty floral designs that meet the needs of the client. Furthermore, an emphasis on budgetary adherence and entrepreneurship equips students with many of the necessary skills needed for success in floral enterprises.

At the end of this course, students can become
Level 2 certified through Texas State Florists’ Association.
We are looking into expanding this aspect of our curriculum. Right now we do a few specialty orders for other organizations in our school and have done a few for the community. We do not have the flowers available to create an arrangement on short notice but can accommodate people needing something within three weeks’ time.  We are also looking at selling the arrangements we make for the holidays.
