Downtime, what's downtime?
People often think summers are for relaxation and catching up, but not at CORA Services!
After celebrating our most successful golf outing to date, this summer at CORA was jam packed with counseling, camps, community activities and prepping for the approaching school year.
We hosted what I hope was to be the first of many CAMP CORA alumni reunions and it was a blast! Many of you may remember the original CAMP CORA which ran from 1978-2004. During that time, on our old grounds, CORA enriched the lives of thousands of local kids and young adults by creating countless memories and relationships. While the summer camp program run by CORA now is much different today than 20 years ago, the hallmarks of the program remain the same - caring and compassionate staff - and tons of fun!
Once again, CORA partnered with The Philadelphia Youth Network's WorkReady Program, recruiting and placing 40 students in positions all across CORA. Many of the spots were as counselors in training at our 5 summer camp locations and the rest were in our headquarters on Verree Road. With these enthusiastic youth in our midst, we had no choice but to keep energy levels high.
In fact, in addition to our awesome campers, counselors, and additional summer staff, the CORA community has tons of reasons to be excited. Just to name a few, we are the gracious recipients of generous grants from Independence Blue Cross Foundation, the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and The Fund for Quality! These new funds will enable the agency to expand existing programs and services as well as embark on a few exciting new adventures - stay tuned for more information on these growth initiatives.
I am proud of the incredible work CORA's dedicated staff do to strengthen families and communities and help children overcome obstacles to success - your support fuels that effort. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to help CORA thrive.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
