The U.S. Supreme Court denied an appeal from the American Bankers Association (ABA) to void NCUA field of membership (FOM) rule, a decision that marks the end of bankers' nearly four-year battle to undo NCUA's FOM rule finalized in October 2016. CUNA and leagues have long supported the rule and NCUA's authority to provide oversight for the credit union industry.

June 2020 CU Trends Report Now Available
CUNA Mutual Group's Credit Union Trends Report for June 2020 is now available online and can be accessed in the Resources section of our website, under the heading Performance and Data Resources.

During April, credit unions picked up 41,000 in new memberships and loan and savings balances grew at an 7.2% and 18.7% seasonally-adjusted annualized pace, respectively. Firms laid off 20.7 million workers, nominal consumer spending fell 13.6% and long-term interest rates decreased 21 basis points. Real GDP is expected to contact 30% in the second quarter and rebound 20% in the 3rd quarter, which will ultimately slow credit union lending and membership growth in 2020.

La Capitol FCU Awarded Forbes' Best In State Credit Union 2020
La Capitol Federal Credit Union has been named by Forbes magazine to their third annual America's Best Credit Unions in Each State list. This award is presented by Forbes and Statista, a world leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.

Forbes Best-In-State Banks and Credit Unions 2020 is comprised of the top banks and credit unions based on the results of independent surveys involving approximately 25,000 U.S. consumers. Participants were asked to rate the financial institutions at which they have or have had checking accounts. Members made recommendations regarding overall satisfaction. They also assessed banks and credit unions in five areas: trust, terms and conditions, branch services, digital services, and financial advice.

"La Capitol is honored to be recognized as one of the best credit unions in the nation," said Michael Hooper, President and CEO of La Capitol FCU. "Our staff puts in a lot of hard work every day. It is gratifying to see that our members noticed and said as much on the survey."

Financial institutions were scored on overall recommendations and satisfaction, as well as the five subdimensions. Of the 5,236 credit unions nationwide, just 3.5 percent made the list.
