5th Sunday after Pentecost

July 5, 2020
Click on the links below to read this Sunday's scriptures:

“Come to me, all you who are weary... and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28

Jesus offers an invitation to those who are weary looking for the truth. Many of us are weary right now for a lot of different reasons. Jesus gives the promise of rest for our souls. This rest is peace, oneness with God, and a way to live that teaches us how to depend upon God to be the source of our strength. May God’s Spirit lift our burdens and rejuvenate our spirits, so that we discover rest and peace amidst all the world's problems!

OUTDOOR SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP – It has been a joy to have the alternative of gathering together outside, with the sun shining (so far!) and the birds singing. We will continue to plan an outdoor worship service each Sunday at 9:00AM, with a livestream recording.

TEMPORARY GAP IN ACCESS TO OUR CHURCH APP – Our former church app is no longer available (beginning today) and we are hoping to have our new church app and website within the next couple weeks. Members are encouraged to use our FaceBook (Epiphany Lutheran Rock Hill) page.

See you in the Parking Lot or online!

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY IN EPIPHANY'S PARKING LOT - Stay in Car or Bring Lawn Chair
At 9:00 AM, this Sunday, July 5, 2020, you will see a lot of activity in our parking lot! We will have a sound system set up with a table that will enable us to sing (with keyboard and guitars), pray, read scripture, proclaim the Word of God, and share in Holy Communion.
Cars will be directed to park - If you bring your lawn chair , you will be directed to park at the very back and walk up to set your chair in the shade or in the area left open in the front. If you prefer to sit in your car (or sit in your chair just outside your car ) you will be directed to parking spaces in the middle area of the parking lot facing the front.
Parking Lot Attendants and Basket Helpers - We will have members to direct you and pass out bulletins and communion kits. Bathrooms will be available by accessing through the outside door to the Education building hallway. We have asked our volunteers to wear masks and sanitize their hands as they approach worshipers in their cars and lawn chairs. IF YOU CAN HELP CONTACT: Rick Krenzer (Parking Lot Attendants) and Page Putnam (Basket Case People)
Sunglasses are recommended - The temperature should be mild (60-75 degrees) at 9:00 AM-10:00 AM. However, the sun will be just rising up over the trees and church building to shine into worshipers faces. There may be a chance of rain. We will not likely cancel the service based on a forecast, unless there is a high probability of a thunderstorm or rain. A special message will be sent out and posted on the church website if it is necessary to move the service indoors for our worship leadership team to record on-line.
YOUR SAFETY IS A PRIORITY! WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WEAR MASKS AS THEY APPROACH EACH OTHER AND TO KEEP A SOCIAL DISTANCE OF 6-10 FEET.

MINISTRY LEADERSHIP TEAMS PLANNING TO MEET
We are encouraging each of our Ministry Leadership Teams to organize small teams of leadership to oversee its particular area of ministry. The teams will meet quarterly to vision and coordinate plans for ministry. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Property MLT - Monitors and facilitates the maintenance of the church building & property, and office equipment through the following areas: building maintenance (lights, heating and cooling, plumbing, kitchen, carpet, painting, etc.), congregational workdays, office equipment, and weekly building clean-up.
We are currently without a Property MLT chair. During this transition a team of people will meet to coordinate and plan. A meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13, 10am , outdoors at the picnic table area (weather permitting; otherwise in Community Room). All members are invited to attend, especially if you have a passion and interest in maintaining and improving Epiphany's facility and church grounds. Call Pastor Ken or Rick Roullette if questions.
Community Outreach MLT - Coordinates through teams, individuals, and task forces, all outreach ministries of the congregation that touch the lives of people outside of Epiphany. The following is an updated list of outreach ministries of which Epiphany is currently involved: Blood Drives, Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, Family Promise, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice Care ministries, Hunger Outreach Program, Men’s Shelter (The Haven) summer meals, Nursing home ministries, Pilgrim’s Inn, and Turkeys for Families. Jo Giliberti is the chair. A meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13, 7pm (video conference - Zoom). All members are invited to attend. We are hoping to establish a team to coordinate existing outreach ministries and to reactivate former outreach activities. Call Jo if you have questions (201-566-4011). MORE VARIETY OF FACE MASKS HAVE BEEN CRAFTED AND ARE AVAILABLE IN THE GATHERING AREA AT CHURCH - There are 3 sizes: regular, small and X-small. I've attached a photo. The smallest fits young kids, the small is for preteen or tiny adults. Stop by the church during office hours, pick up on picnic tables on Sunday morning during outdoor worship, or call the church to have us to deliver it to your home. Thanks to Sue Helmken for taking the time to make the masks for us.

Message from Our Director of Music - Julia Bozarth
Thanks for all the warm welcoming to Epiphany Lutheran! My husband, Jeff, our youngest daughter, Cindy, and I are excited about being at Epiphany, and we look forward to worshiping with you each Sunday.
We live in Gastonia, NC. We are originally from Indianapolis, IN, where I graduated from Butler University with a major in Music Education. Jeff was in the US Navy, and we lived in Charleston, SC for several years in the mid '80's. We fell in love with the Carolinas, and decided that we would make the area our home when we got the chance.
Feel free to come up and say 'hello' after service. We may be wearing masks, but we're smiling because we're happy to meet you!
THANK YOU, JULIA, FOR YOUR WONDERFUL MUSIC AT OUR OUTDOOR WORSHIP. WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU LEAD OUR MUSIC PROGRAM AT EPIPHANY!!!

Family Promise Yard Sale - July 17-18; Volunteer Help Needed

We have finally been able to secure a location and dates for our yard sale. This sale will be taking place at the Rock Hill Galleria at the former Home South store front site! Dates of the sale will be July 17th from 8-2 and July 18th from 7-2( I think). This site is much bigger so we are hopeful we will have room for all donations we have collected!

Here's where I could use your help! We are in need of volunteer groups that are willing to help us with setting up. We hope to start setting up this week and will continue to be setting up until the day of the sale.
I know several of you have volunteers that would continue to like to help us since they haven't been able to be at the church hosting. Would you mind sending your volunteers information on the sale and request that if any of them would like to volunteer we could sure use their help!!! Proper social distancing can be achieved in the site and they would mainly be unpacking boxes and sorting items into the space!
We also need volunteers the day of the sale to help! Again proper social distancing will be required and masks are being asked to be worn by all volunteers and shoppers!

Thank you for your help in helping us getting this sale put together and finding volunteers! Since our Gala is having to be postponed this year, we are hoping to have a wonderful sale!
