Harvest Celebration Set for October 25
The Johnnie Mae Farm, located at 2518 Winter St., is hosting the second annual Harvest Celebration on Friday, October 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. The remaining vegetables will be harvested and offered free of charge to residents on a first come first serve basis. Collard and mustard greens, potatoes, radishes, carrots, beets, tomatoes, and peppers should be available. In addition to the produce, the celebration will include free family-friendly activities, information, and/or snacks from a range of community organizations.

Free Lead Paint Remediation Available for Qualified Homeowners
The City of Fort Wayne's Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services is offering a Lead Paint Remediation Program to help protect children from the dangers of lead poisoning. Currently in the United States, there are more than one million children who have been poisoned by lead from old paint. Chipping and peeling paint, or home repairs that create even a small amount of lead dust, are enough to poison a child.

Late Night Basketball Returns
The Fort Wayne UNITED Late Night Basketball League is returning for the fall session. The program runs from 8 - 11 p.m. each Saturday evening now through November 9. The Fort Wayne UNITED Late Night Basketball League is held at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA, 2323 Bowser Ave. The league focuses on providing teens and young adults, ages 16 - 25, with a positive, structured and safe environment while exposing them to much more than basketball.

Neighborhood Code Reminds Residents to Clean Out Gutters
As winter approaches and leaves fall, Neighborhood Code officers are reminding residents to clear out gutters so water can drain property away from the home. By clearing gutters of bee hives, leaves, bird nests and more, residents can help prevent structural damage such as foundation failure and basement flooding.

City Hosts 300 Neighborhood Leaders from Across Midwest
T
he City of Fort Wayne recently hosted the Regional Neighborhood Network Conference and welcomed approximately 300 grassroots neighborhood leaders from dozens of Midwestern cities. Guests attended workshops and neighborhood tours and even celebrated new friendships in Promenade Park. Thanks to the approximately 60 local neighborhood leaders who volunteered to ensure the conference was a success.

Turner Chapel AME Church will soon be a locally designated historic district. Fort Wayne City Council and Mayor Tom Henry are expected to complete the designation for the church, located at 836 E. Jefferson Blvd., on October 23.
The building was constructed in 1927 and is significant for its association with Turner Chapel African Methodist Church, the first African American congregation in Fort Wayne.

Porch Off Calhoun Open Through October
Due to the positive response to the "Porch Off Calhoun," the public gathering space will now remain open through October. The "Porch Off Calhoun" is located in the parking spaces adjacent to the alley on Calhoun Street next to Pint 'n Slice, 816 S Calhoun St. and has been transformed with seating, lighting, art and planters.

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry recently announced the selection of Barrett & Stokely as the developer who plans to construct a project in excess of $70 million on the Premier Riverfront site to the east of Promenade Park. The development would include 225 apartments, a 900-space parking garage, and 55,000 square feet of commercial/retail space.

Fort Wayne is home to dozens of local historic districts, as well as districts listed on the National Register. The Wildwood Park Historic District was listed on the National Register in 2013 because of its significance as an outstanding example of innovative suburban development designed by a nationally significant landscape architect and developer.
