Celebrating 50 Years! Member of the Month: Rachel Royston
Meet Linda Wanamaker, October's second PATH Intl. Member of the Month! Linda is with Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center in Vineyards, Massachusetts! Linda first joined in 2013 to do what she loves--helping people. Her favorite thing about belonging to the EAAT community is, "the connection to a community I'm proud to serve." Linda's first career was as a riding instructor, so she has known about EAAT for 30 years and has spoke n at Lesley University in Cambridge about alternative therapies of healing with equines.
The story of her favorite horse is so heartwarming! She tells us, "Noble has been a therapeutic horse for half his life. He's now 30. When the center tried to retire him he broke out of his new home and walked nine miles in the night back to his therapeutic center! Ahhhhh, Noble! An equally endearing story of a favorite participant also warms the heart, but of course it does. "Stella at 5 years old was too afraid to even get out of the car. Six months later she trotted independently and was 3rd in a class of 10!"

University of Kentucky Health Survey
The goal of this research is to positively impact volunteerism by defining conditions that are health protective. In order to establish a baseline understanding of work practices and potential exposures, your participation is requested. The following link is for a survey offered through December 31, 2019 on volunteer work practices and facility characteristics: Equine Assisted Activities/Therapies Volunteer Worker Survey.
Because horses and volunteers are essential to all types of EAAT, it is important to characterize environmental factors that influence health in these populations. Dr. Tumlin states, "This research is the first step in developing understanding of the balance between risks and benefits of these important horse-human interactions."
Dr. Tumlin is an award recipient of funding through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health through the Pilot Research Project Training Program of the University of Cincinnati Education and Research Center Grant #T42OH008432. This grant is funding the study of volunteer workers through an innovative collaboration with Purdue University exposure health scientist, Sa Liu, PhD, MPH, and aerosol scientist Jae Park, PhD. In the first phase of this study, Dr. Tumlin is seeking feedback on volunteer work practices and facility characteristics of EAAT-specific programs. In the second phase, several centers will be recruited from the survey to participate in volunteer-specific exposure analyses.
Your participation is greatly appreciated in contributing to the health of horses and humans.

Graduate Student Survey: East Carolina University
You are being invited to participate in a research study titled "Exploring the potential inclusion of child life professionals in equine-assisted activities and therapy" being conducted by Rachel Robinson, a graduate student at East Carolina University in the Human Development and Family Science department.
Click here for the survey. The goal is to survey 250 individuals through Qualtrics. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. It is hoped that this information will assist us to better understand the knowledge that equine-assisted activities and therapies personnel have about the field of child life and their attitudes toward incorporating child life specialists into the equine-assisted activities and therapies team. Your responses will be kept confidential and no data will be released or used with your identification attached. Your participation in the research is voluntary. You may choose not to answer any or all questions, and you may stop at any time. There is no penalty for not taking part in this research study. Please call Rachel Robinson at (509) 332-9201 for any research related questions or the Office of Research Integrity & Compliance (ORIC) at (252) 744-2914 for questions about your rights as a research participant.
