Cumberland becomes a Refugee Welcome Zone

On Thursday 29 August Cumberland Council officially became a Refugee Welcome Zone.

This Refugee Council of Australia run initiative invokes the spirit of welcoming refugees into the community with a focus on upholding human rights. 

Signage will be distributed across the Cumberland LGA and in community facilities to acknowledge this important step. 

Cumberland is home to one of the highest proportions of refugee and asylum seeker populations in Australia.

We need you for our Customer Satisfaction Survey

Cumberland Council is currently undertaking an over-the-phone Customer Satisfaction Survey to receive feedback from residents on Council services.

Residents are encouraged to take a few minutes if called to provide comments and suggestions. 

Calls will be made to a random selection of residents from across the Council area.

Council appreciates your cooperation and values your feedback.

School Holidays are upon us

School holidays are around the corner and Council has just announced a line-up of fun-filled activities to keep the kids entertained. 

School holiday programs run from Monday 30 September 2019 to Friday 11 October 2019.

A total of three centres will operate with separate programs for children aged 5 to 9 years, 5 to 12 years and 10 to 13 years.

All centres are open from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Do you want to feature at our upcoming festival? 

Are you a creative food truck, business or novelty store looking to be a stallholder at one of the most vibrant events of the year? 

Council is looking for businesses to submit their interest for the Cumberland Diwali Festival to be held on Saturday 26 October 2019. 

This event presents an opportunity for your business or organisation to engage with a large number of residents and families within our community.

If you would like to participate as a stallholder, please submit an expression of interest by downloading the info pack and application form and returning it to Council's Events Officer by email to   stallholders@cumberland.nsw.gov.au.

Expressions of interests close Saturday 7 September 2019.
Have your say for the children and families of Cumberland

Census data shows that Cumberland is home to nearly 40,000 children aged up to 12 years and this population is increasing. 

Cumberland Council is encouraging residents to provide their feedback on the Draft Children and Families Strategy 2019 - 2023. 

Child protection, education and care, community participation and health and well-being are priority areas addressed in the Strategy. 

The Draft Children and Families Strategy 2019 - 2023 is on public exhibition until Friday, 6 September 2019. 

Submissions can be made online by visiting the  have your say website.  
Deadline extended for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists' expression of interest

There is still time for you to have your work permanently featured at The Granville Centre. 

Indigenous artists are encouraged to express their interest by submitting works as part of an initiative to highlight the importance of Aboriginal culture and history in Cumberland. 

Artists interested in applying are encouraged to call Gallery Director and Cultural Services Coordinator Michael Brown on 8757 9780.

Submissions will now close on Sunday 8 September.

Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival comes to a close
 
From culinary delights to exquisite blossoms, the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival did not disappoint this year!

Close to 90,000 locals and visitors indulged in Japanese-Australian fusion cuisines. 

Uncle Tetsu, Demochi Donuts and Get Shrimped were just some of the thirty food vendors that catered to both sweet and savoury taste buds.

We were visited by Jono Coleman from Studio 10 in an exclusive with Mayor Greg Cummings and Garden Day headliner Costa. 

Social media influencers from around the country came to the heart of Auburn for one-of-a-kind shots which flooded  digital platforms.
