LVHA volunteer, Graham Lawrence, enjoys the new signage under the special Deaf Smith tree offspring.
New signage commemorates second-generation Deaf Smith tree

Thanks to Ryan Richter , we now have a new and much better marker to tell the story of the Deaf Smith next-generation tree at the museum. Ryan had the idea to mount the sign in an easy-to-read position. He also volunteered his welding skills to make the stand and he also dug the hole to erect it. Ryan is the son of our museum director, Susan Richter.

The tree was grown from an acorn of the famous Deaf Smith Tree and planted at the museum by Iris and Skipper Seale on Nov. 18, 2007.

A special tree requires special attention
A few of the Richter family boys volunteered to help when the tree needed attention at the
base and roots during the hot summer.

Bricks are paving the way to the final goal at the La Vernia Veterans Memorial
Your brick orders will help us complete the final phase of the construction - a 21' obelisk in the center similar to the one pictured here.

"Bricks and bench donations will get us to our final goal," said LV Veterans Memorial Chairman, Walter Scull . "The wall inscriptions are not a fundraiser but the brick and bench orders will help us finish this beautiful project."

Bricks - $60 and $250
Benches - $2,500
