PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED FOR 19TH ANNUAL OC ARTS AWARDS
|
Performances at this year's Orange County Arts Awards will include The Alley Cats, America's doo-wop singing ensemble, who will appear at the VIP Reception; Ciro Hurtado, the Latin Grammy Award nominated guitarist who performs original and traditional Andean music; Jennise Hwang, Assistant Principal Second Violinist with Pacific Symphony;
Scott Barnhardt, the Broadway musical theater artist who is the newly appointed Director of Musical Theater at Orange County School of the Arts,
and The Irvine Barclay Theatre Jazz Band featuring Ron Kobayashi and Jerry Mandel, who will entertain guests at the post-ceremonies reception on the patio.
Returning performers are
Dan Spector, piano, who also serves as music director for the event; Dave Cross, guitar, who will perform prior to the ceremonies on the Samueli Theater patio. Tickets are on sale now.

CAL HUMANITIES GRANT FOR TALK BACK THEATRE
|
Talk Back Theatre has received a grant 0f $2,520 from CalHumanities to support its next new play reading and conversation, "Good Bad People" by Rachel Lynett directed by Jonelle Allen, on September 8, 7 pm at Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana. Admission is free. Arts Orange County serves as fiscal sponsor for Talk Back Theatre.

OC'S PAMELA KASHANI CAST IN NEW TV SERIES |
Pamela Winslow Kashani has been cast in a new serialized TV drama called "Mélange" that will star Morgan Fairchild. The half-hour series will center on the fight over the ownership of an historic New York City gay bar, Mélange, after its proprietor has suddenly and mysteriously died. Kashani starred as Rapunzel in the original production of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" on Broadway and is active as a producer, with her husband Tim.

THUY VO DANG APPOINTED TO JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT ARTS COMMISSION |
The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved Supervisor Andrew Do's appointment of Thuy Vo Dang, Ph.D. to represent the First District on the John Wayne Airport Arts Commission.
The arts commission is tasked with making recommendations to the Airport Director and the Board of Supervisors regarding the development and administration of the Airport Arts Program. Dr. Dang, who is Curator of the Southeast Asian Archive at University of California Irvine (UCI) Libraries, also serves on the Board of Arts Orange County and Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association.

The Newport Beach City Arts Commission invites arts organizations offering cultural arts programs for Newport Beach residents and visitors to apply for
2018/2019 Newport Beach Cultural Arts Grants available through the City Arts Commission. The deadline for applications is September 28, 2018.

SOC | Shakespeare/SummerFest OC received an unrestricted grant of $2,500 from Orange County Community Foundation as part of its "Keeping It Current Campaign." Four other arts organizations received smaller grants--Irvine Barclay Theatre, Laguna Beach Live, San Clemente Community Theatre, Pacific Symphony--and were among the 28 total grants awarded. |
