Release of the IRL Health Update - Finally!
After three years of hard work and raising over $200,000, MRC officially released the IRL Health Update Report (Report Card) on August 7th at two press events attended by over 200 people. Dr. Leesa Souto spoke about the results and each attendee received the printed, 16-page report. Printed reports are being mailed to MRC members later this month. Join today and we will mail yours to your house!

Join us for our September Brown Bag presentation with Brandon Conroy, Ph.D, a Biologist for the Cocoa Permits Division of the Army Corps of Engineers, for a brief overview of the Army Corps of Engineers' Jacksonville District Regulatory Division program. He will be discussing federal jurisdiction, the permitting process including consultation under the Endangered Species Act, the Magnuson-Stevens Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act, and many other details about the federal bureaucracy.

Save Our Indian River Lagoon Project Plan Mangrove Plantings
We have a couple of mangrove plantings funded by the Save Our Indian River Lagoon (SOIRL) Project Plan to create living shorelines along the IRL coming up soon on August 25th. Mangroves reduce nutrients, improve wildlife habitat, and improve water quality. Come get your hands dirty with us! Please contact Kate Zehnder , our Volunteer Coordinator, for more information.

Looking for your next good read? Come visit our new Little Lending Library at the Lagoon House! Little Libraries function on the premise of "Take a book, lend a book". In this way, they promote reading, provide free access to books, and recycle good reads! Current titles in MRC's Little Lending Library include:

Staff Spotlight: Josh Rubin, Field Tech
Josh started at MRC this past summer as a field tech, working on the LagoonWatch program and the Groundwater-Wastewater Study. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and upon completion of high school, he moved to Melbourne to join his family. Josh attended Eastern Florida State College and then transferred to the University of Florida to study chemical engineering. In addition to his work for MRC, Josh has a fondness for animals, especially endangered big cats, such as cheetahs, tigers and leopards. He is also an avid game player, including video games, board games and card games. Welcome to the team, Josh!
