EVANS WEEKLY
Issue: #3
August 17, 2018

Good afternoon, Panthers,

YAY!!! Monday is almost here and we are so excited to begin a new school year.  Thank you to all the families that joined us at Meet the Teacher night.  We had an amazing turnout and it was great seeing how much our kiddos have grown up over the summer.  Another huge thanks to everyone who joined the Community picnic on Thursday night.  Our staff had a blast mingling with our families and cooking up some hot dogs for everyone.  Thanks Officer Lee for being a super chef!!

Evans' doors open at 8:15 daily.  There is no supervision before this time, so please be mindful of that and try to not drop your child off before that time.  When students come into the building in the mornings, there is a NEW procedure for where they go.  6th grade students will go to the 6th grade hallway and sit along the lockers.  7th grade students will go to the 7th grade hallway and sit along the lockers.  8th grade students will go to the large gym and have free seating in the bleachers.  Only breakfast eaters will be allowed to stay in the cafeteria and they will eat on the bottom 2 levels.  Supervision will be provided in all areas.

Students will be given a yellow copy of their schedule on Monday morning in 1st period.  There should not be many students who receive a different schedule from what was given at Meet the Teacher, but there are a few schedules that did have to change.  If your child has a schedule they would like to change, there are schedule change forms in the Counselors' Corner.  Not all requests for changes will be made, based on availability and conflicts in schedules.  Lockers for 7th and 8th graders will be given out per request and students will have a chance to do that on Monday morning.  All 6th graders receive lockers.

During Meet the Teacher, I offered a parent presentation to all 6th grade parents who were interested in learning the ins and outs of our school.  I have attached that slideshow HERE for your viewing, if desired.

Drop-off and Pick-up: NO cars can drop off/pick-up students in the back of the building this school year.  The only transportation allowed in the back of the building are our buses and parents with a "Back Parking Access" pass.  Please be mindful of this and follow these procedures to help keep students safe.  Traffic is always a little heavier at the beginning of the year, so please plan accordingly.

Uber Eats and other food transportation: MISD does NOT allow students to receive food from outside delivery services.  If you are planning to bring food to your child, please know that we do not call down to classrooms to let students know their food has arrived; this is a disruption to instruction.  Also, if you bring food for your child, no other students/friends of your child will be able to eat the food brought to school.

We are looking forward to having the best Panther year EVER!!  See you guys bright and early on Monday morning,
Darla

      EVANS PTO
PTO's Check-writing Campaign
After overwhelming parent feedback, we are again offering a check-writing campaign as our fundraiser ... NO SELLING required.  But, to meet our budget, we need all families to participate. For every $10 donated, your family will receive a raffle entry for some amazing prizes donated by local business. The fundraiser runs until August 31, when we will hold the drawings for the prizes during student lunches.
We have also made it easier to donate with an option for an online credit card donation at https://www.evanspto.com/product-page/fundraising.
Why should you just make an online donation or write a check?
*NO begging friends and family to buy stuff, which will then sit in your dining room for six months.
*NO making cupcakes for a bake sale or signing up for a 5k.
*YES, you want to support our school without any hassle!
*The very best reason: 100 percent of the proceeds stays at Evans to help our students and teachers! A ll funds raised by Evans PTO benefit each and every student through various programs and activities, including teacher classroom grants, the schoolwide IMPACT party, MEF scholarship grants for two Evans graduating seniors, academic program support, parent education programs, teacher appreciation, and more!

Have you been saving your Box Tops all summer? We are kicking off our first contest of the year. The student who donates the most Box Tops between now and Friday, Oct. 19, will receive four free public skating passes including skate rental to Dr. Pepper StarCenter McKinney. Just place your Box Tops in a baggie (please check those expiration dates!), put your student's name and grade on the outside, and drop them off in the box in the school office. All Box Tops must be turned in by Oct. 19 to be eligible for the prize.

      NOTES FROM OUR NURSE

Welcome back! I hope all of you enjoyed a healthy and restful summer! I am looking forward to another fantastic year at Evans!

If you are a 7th grader who has not updated your immunizations, you must bring that documentation to Evans Clinic to be able to get your schedule on Meet the Teacher night and to attend school on Monday August 20th!!

HEALTH CONCERN? If you are a parent of a student with a health concern, please make sure you complete the health history form, and also contact me in the clinic directly! Thank you for updating this vital information every year.

GOT MEDS?

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: Please keep in mind that MISD has a No Tolerance policy regarding medication possession. Students are not to carry medication of any kind at anytime (except inhalers/epi-pens with specific written MD and parental consent). All medications administered at school must be brought to the clinic by the parent or guardian, stored in the clinic and the MISD medication administration form completed.

*All medications are to be stored in the nurse's office with the exception of certain prescribed inhalers for the treatment of asthma.
*All medications must be stored in the school clinic in the original container clearly labeled with the student's name.
*All prescription and non-prescription medications taken during the school day must have a corresponding MISD Medication

Health Screenings will include:
ALL 7th graders for Vision/Hearing/AN. We will start those screenings in September.
All 8th graders will get screened for scoliosis, probably starting in October.

Lost Glasses - will be turned into the clinic and kept here. If your student ever loses their glasses remind them to check here.

Thank you!

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers who make it possible for us to make our school the very best it can be!  Please remember that if you are a returning volunteer, or maybe a first time MISD volunteer, that you must go online to fill out a Volunteer Application and be approved before you can serve in any capacity where you will have contact with students.  Sometimes this takes a couple of weeks, so please do it as soon as possible!  We need you!!!
Click HERE to go directly to the link.
Thank you so very much!  We look forward to having you on our campus!

Volunteer applications may take up to two weeks to be processed.
If after two weeks you have not been contacted regarding your volunteer status, please contact MISD Human Resources at 469-302-4117. DO NOT contact staff members at schools regarding your volunteer application. Your application is a confidential matter.
