HUD Backs Off on Rule It Says Stifles Affordability
   
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is taking steps to scale back a fair housing rule that had sought to combat housing segregation. HUD Secretary Ben Carson says the 2015 rule is standing in the way of efforts to add more affordable housing.
The Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule required cities and towns to examine historic patterns of segregation, and then create plans to combat them.


LEGISLATIVE NEWS
Gov. Phil Murphy signed S-430 into law 
   
This bill makes these important changes the real estate license law:
  • Codifies that a business affiliation between a broker and a broker-salesperson or salesperson may be an employment relationship or an independent contractor relationship.
  • Adds real estate license safety and financial literacy as core topics for CE.
  • Ensures individuals registered under Megan's Law cannot receive a real estate license.
  • Eliminates correspondence and distance learning CE courses (online courses are still permitted).
