THIS WEEK IN LARGO June 26, 2020
FACE COVERINGS REQUIRED
The City of Largo is continuing a regional response to align our public safety initiatives with state and local authorities. Effective June 26, Largo Leadership has decided to follow the guidelines in Pinellas County's ordinance requiring face coverings in indoor settings by the public. This decision is based on COVID-19 trending data, the County's leading public health officials, and CDC guidance. Local face covering requirements will be needed in all City of Largo facilities. Learn more about requirement details, and how you can help slow the spread.

Although Largo's fireworks have been canceled, the City of Largo is excited to show the community love with a socially distanced drive-by salute to our neighbors on the Fourth of July. We encourage residents to celebrate with us by standing at the end of your driveway and socially distancing while waving flags, cheering and dancing to our music!

PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY THIS FOURTH OF JULY
This year's Fourth of July festivities may look different for many places due to firework display cancelations, and families might be more encouraged to set off their own firework displays. Largo Fire Rescue wants you to be safe and think about alternatives for celebrating with fireworks including biodegradable confetti, bubbles, and noisemakers.

RESIDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM UPDATE
Due to the large backlog of cases being processed by 2-1-1 Tampa Bay for the Pinellas CARES Program, the Florida Housing Coalition has recommended that the City of Largo proceed with processing cases without requiring clients to check eligibility through 2-1-1 first. Accordingly, the policy was revised by the Development Controls Officer on June 23, 2020 to reflect this change. This change will allow applicants to be eligible to receive City Resident Assistance benefits prior to the completion of the processing of their 2-1-1 Tampa Bay (Pinellas CARES Program) application. Clients will still need to disclose on their application if they received any financial assistance and will sign a grant agreement for State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) funds awarded by the City that includes a Duplication of Benefits statement.

KENT PLACE RE-PAVING PROJECT
During the week of  July 6 , Kent Place residents may experience driving delays while the City's contractor completes limited re-paving in several locations. The contractor will coordinate access with residents to ensure access to all properties. GOVERNOR DeSANTIS SIGNS JORDAN'S LAW
On June 18, Governor Ron DeSantis signed “Jordan’s Law,” a legislative bill aimed at improving communication between child welfare agencies and law enforcement and at training more people to recognize child head trauma. The law will require new training for caseworkers, law enforcement officers and parents to recognize head trauma in children under the age of 6.

The bill, sponsored by State Representative Chris Latvala (District 67), is named after Jordan Belliveau, a 2-year old toddler who died in 2018 in Largo from head trauma. Senator Darryl Rouson (District 19) sponsored the Senate version of the bill. Senator Ed Hooper (District 16), Representative Jennifer Webb (District 69) and House Speaker Designate Chris Sprowls (District 65) also signed on to support the bill.

More information about the law and impact can be found on Largo.com . A special thanks to the Largo Police Department and clinical neuropsychologist, Dr. Jim Lewis, for turning tragedy into action.
