This Week's Events and Announcements
Beginning August 19, 2018

*Please join us in the Atrium on August 19 after worship to meet and welcome Pastor John Sutherland, our Interim Pastor! Pastor Sutherland has worked with congregations in transition in his recent role as Assistant to the Bishop in the NW Synod of WI and served as a Pastor for 19 years. He lives in Hudson, WI with his wife and four children. We are delighted to have him join our Holy Spirit filled congregation to assist us in discerning God's will for Redeemer as we enter into a wonderful new time of mission and ministry.

Book Sale Alert!
We hope that your summer reading has been great and that you have some good books to donate to the annual Redeemer Book Sale that will be held in September. Children's books are especially popular so those are greatly appreciated. Any books that you have to donate can be placed on the shelf in the library. Thank you for helping us earn money to add new books and supplies to our library. If you have any questions, please contact Nan Carlson at 651-429-3278.

Redeemer Education Series: Vulnerabilities of Aging
Redeemer 2nd Half Ministries Team is hosting four community nights this fall to explore the "Vulnerabilities of Aging." Our speakers are community experts from Lutheran Social Service, 2nd Half with Lyngblomsten, the White Bear Senior Center, and the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf. This is a unique opportunity to learn about financial concerns, health changes, caregiver stress, housing issues, risks of homelessness, and other challenges people face in aging. The presenters will also share information about supportive community resources and volunteer opportunities. You are invited to come to as many of the presentations as you would like. Featuring:

September 12, 6:00-7:30 PM
Health Changes and Caregiving;
September 19, 6:00-7:30 PM
Housing Issues for Seniors;
September 26, 6:00-7:30 PM
Hunger and Risks for Homelessness;
October 3, 6:00-7:30 PM

There is no fee or registration required!

Fall Soma Yogadevotion
A fall session of Soma Yogadevotion will begin on Thursdays, September 6 through October 18 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the Redeemer Library. Soma Yoga is a newer type of yoga in which participants practice slow, subtle movements that can reeducate the brain on how to move tense muscles. The classes are for all levels and students can practice on a mat, chair, or standing at a wall. Please bring a yoga mat and blanket to class. Cost is $56 for the session. Sign up by bringing a check to the church office by September 3, 2018. Please make checks payable to Redeemer Lutheran with "Soma Yoga" written on the memo line. Contact Jane Schroeher at [email protected] with questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Nursery Volunteers Needed
We are looking for individuals with a passion for working with children (infants to four years old) on Sunday mornings at the 10:30 service. The nursery will be available to families beginning Homecoming Sunday, September 9 through May. Time commitment involves one hour every other month. Contact Dona Will at 651-429-5411 or [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering.

God's Work, Our Hands Day
The outreach team is looking for project ideas and project leaders for our "God's Work, Our Hands" Sunday on September 9. We have had a wide variety of projects in the past years. Everything from gardening work to card making to organizing a soccer game for kids in the community. Tell us what you are passionate about so that we can help organize a team to go out and have an impact on that day. Sign ups for the day are posted outside of the sanctuary, so please get your project ideas in ASAP. We will also be looking for help with food prep so we can have lunch together before heading out to our different projects. If you would like to lead a project or help with lunch prep, please email or call Mike Lundberg ([email protected]) 651-402-3744.
