Vacancy to Vibrancy: Transforming At Risk Landmarks into Neighborhood Assets
With Cleveland's focus on vital neighborhoods, the Cleveland Restoration Society is excited to explore success stories from Historic Boston Incorporated at the 2018 Community Luncheon. Kathy Kottaridis, Executive Director of HBI, will share projects from firehouses to farms that bring vitality and value to Boston's neighborhoods.
A special meeting of the members will also be convened at the Community Luncheon to elect J. Gordon Premier (pictured above) as an Honorary Life Trustee of the Cleveland Restoration Society.

Warner & Swasey Complex Redevelopment Request for Proposals
The City of Cleveland issued a request for proposals for the Warner & Swasey complex on E. 55
th. Situated in the growing Mid-Town district, the 3 acre property is a prime location for a creative project.

reGENerated: 2018 Legacy Cities Conference Proposals Deadline Extended
Continuing the torch started by the Cleveland Restoration Society in 2014, Buffalo's Young Preservationists and Preservation Buffalo Niagara are hosting a conference to discuss preservation's role in revitalizing Legacy Cities.
Planners, community development and preservation professionals, policy makers, community leaders, scholars, and grassroots advocates from a range of fields, are invited to submit their proven and solution driven ideas for conference sessions. The deadline has been extended to February 14.

Paid Internship Available for Students of African American History
American Conservation Experience, a Non-Profit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking
ONE CRDIP Research Historian Intern interested in dedicating
74 weeks in support of National Park Service at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park
in DC and Skagway, Alaska.
This is an opportunity to conduct a special historical study on Company L (Buffalo Soldiers), an African-American military unit stationed in Skagway, Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. Research will occur at research institutions in the Washington, D.C. area followed by significant time stationed at Klondike Gold Rush (KLGO) National Historical Park in Skagway, AK. Preference will be given to early applicants.

10th Annual Hope for the City Symposium
Cleveland's fourth-term mayor, Frank G. Jackson, will join three other noted speakers to discuss the vitality of the city's urban neighborhoods during this year's Hope for the City program. Led and hosted by the historic Old Stone Church on Public Square, the Hope for the City speaker series is celebrating its tenth year of addressing local challenges through engaging discussions with community leaders as well as experts in architecture, urban landscaping, development and design, public transportation, and more.

Heritage Center Highlights African-American Business Owners of Oberlin
Oberlin Heritage Center Museum Education & Tour Coordinator Amanda Manahan presents stories of Oberlin's African-American business owners, highlighting their accomplishments, struggles and the legacies they left behind. Her illustrated program focuses on the long remarkable history and diversity of businesses of the past. Attendees also will have the opportunity to share recollections and help the Heritage Center preserve more of the history of African-American businesses in Oberlin. The presentation takes place on Sunday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Oberlin's House of Zion Fellowship Center (81 Locust Street), and it is free and open to the public.
