Reflections from Fr. Rick

Please mark your calendar for Sunday September 30 when the
Rt. Rev. Greg Brewer will visit St. Michael's for Confirmation Sunday at the 10:15 Service and in celebration of St. Michael's Day.

Confirmation.  Reception. Reaffirmation.

At CONFIRMATION, we receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands by a Bishop and "confirm" the vows and renew the covenant made at our baptism.  We publicly promise to follow and allow Jesus Christ to manage our lives and teach us how to live the life we were created to live.  Confirmation is a new beginning, or it can even be a beginning again!

If you're coming to St. Michael's from another denomination, RECEPTION allows you to affirm your commitment to Christ, and the opportunity to publicly state that from now on you wish to draw your spiritual strength from the Episcopal/Anglican stream of the Church.

If you've been Confirmed or Received, you're invited to REAFFIRM your commitment to Jesus Christ. It's a perfect way to affirm that you've grown in your spiritual life and that you intend to have a deeper, closer relationship with God. I'd love it if our entire parish reaffirmed our vows!

In anticipation of this exciting day, please plan to attend our Inquirer's Classes on either Sunday, September 16 after the 10:15 service (food will be provided) or Wednesday, September 19 at 7 pm. We will explore the richness and significance of our baptism -- what was done on our behalf and the promises we make -- along with our identity in Christ and what it means for our lives. CLASSES ARE OPEN TO ALL! There are sign-up sheets in the narthex or contact Ashleigh at 407-843-8448 or [email protected].

We look forward to a glorious day.

In Christ's Love,

This Sunday! Back to School Bash -- After the 10:15 Service
Hot Dog Lunch provided along with a water slide & lots of water fun!

Filling Hungry Tummies!

It's our week to TAKE A BAG!  Please take a Feed My Lambs bag, fill it with the vital foods needed at area school pantries, and return your bag to the church in the coming week.

Thank you, St. Michael's, for being the hands and feet of Jesus here in College Park!
Join us as we continue reading through Ephesians!

We are  continuing to explore Paul's Letter to the Ephesians as our Summer Sermon Series is nearing it's end. Please join us as our community  reads and inwardly digests this deep and life-forming piece of scripture.

This Letter is only six chapters and will take less than an hour to read; try reading one chapter a day for a week. Spend a few minutes noticing what resonates with you and pray as you feel led.

Our hope is as Paul says. "You'll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God."

Lake Silver Elementary Backpack Drive a Huge Success

A HUGE thank you to the St. Michael's Family for our support of our partner schools during this back to school season!
A few of the highlights:
  1. Linda Midkiff and Emilie Vick (and Phoebe!) painted the wonderful mural pictured here. Students will pass this positive message every day on their way into school.
  2. We had over 60 backpacks and several hundred pounds of school supplies donated for both Lake Silver and Edgewater
  3. We had four large bags of personal hygiene products donated for Edgewater
  4. With the Feed My Lambs donations we were able to start off the school year with over 300 pounds of food donated (don't forget to take a bag this Sunday!)Let's keep those bellies full!)
  5. We had over $1,445 in monetary donations to help teachers with their needs lists, uniforms, and additional supplies
  6. We had donations specifically to help Lake Silver with their goal of obtaining a new washer and dryer for their uniform program
  7. Last, but definitely not least, we had wonderful servants show up on the first day of school to cheer on the students, brighten faces, and set a wonderful tone for the upcoming school year.

Thank you again for being the hands, feet and loving arms of Jesus to these children, young adults, teachers and staff at our partner schools.

New Book Study

Starting Wednesday September 19th we will begin a 6 week study on the book Accidental Saints: Finding

God in all the Wrong People by Nadia Bolz-Weber.
The book asks the question: "What if that person you've been trying to avoid is your best shot at grace today?...And what if that's the point?"

In a time when many have rightly become disillusioned with Christianity, Accidental Saints demonstrates what happens when ordinary people share bread and wine, struggle with scripture together, and tell each other the truth about their real lives. This unforgettable account of their faltering steps toward wholeness will ring true for believer and skeptic alike.

Flower Sponsorship at St. Michael's

Did you know that your sponsorship is the only source of funding for this ministry?

The flowers that adorn the altar every Sunday are given to the glory of God and as an offering of worship! We invite you to join in sponsoring the flowers each week in memoriam or thanksgiving for family, friends and or sacramental  occasions.  This is a beautiful and vital ministry as we worship God through His creation.

There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Sign up for your desired date/dates to honor and remember your loved ones throughout the year. Please do so no later than the Sunday prior. You will then receive a confirmation call the week your flowers will be placed on the altar.

Needed -- Children's Chapel Helpers for August 19 & 26

Can you lend a hand for Summer Sunday School August 19 or 26th?  We combine all three classes and meet up in the Camp R.O.C.K. room (upstairs Rowe Hall) for Children's Chapel.

Children's Chapel is led by Ms. Cindy but she does need help.  We are asking for a parent volunteer and a youth volunteer for the next two Sundays.  Please click here to choose which Sunday you would like to serve.

We are asking everyone to choose at least one Sunday.

Youth & Young Adults

EYC Kickoff- This Sunday!

Sunday, August 19
(5:30 - 7 pm)

The EYC season is upon us, folks! This year EYC will kick-off with something a little different. Our Diocesan partner, the Youth Ministry Institute, has been invited to assess our Youth Ministry here at St. Michael's. This will assist us as we prayerfully discern God's direction and future for this ministry.

Parents and students will gather at 5:30 pm in the Youth Room for some dinner. Then the consultant will have two separate sessions, one with the parents only, and one with the students only, to ask questions and discuss our student ministry.

If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Greg. ( [email protected]).
