We had made huge table runners for our son's, Peter, wedding last December. They were 12" x 88". I had made a special heart-flower design with their initials. Pete & Ann loved them.
Now, his best man, Ben, is getting married in October and wanted the same [with his and Dani's initials] with different colored fabric and thread. As it turns out, they loved the table runners, too!
After looking at the cost of 14 table runners, he agreed with us that 12" x 40" was much more manageable. In fact, each completed table runner came out to about $50. We used 45" Robert Kaufman Kona Solids for the top and binding, 118" Robert Kaufman Kona white muslin for the back, and silver Glide thread.
This is what a section looks like:
So we got to thinking and I modified the pattern so that the initials could be easily changed. This is the entire 12"x40" pattern.
At the same time Ruth wanted a flatter binding that could be totally machine stitched and still look good. [As you may know, our shop only finished binding on quilts by hand]. She did some experimenting and came up with her preferred technique [which will be covered in a different newsletter].

Have a blessed day.
