Dear Friends,

It's that time of year - Back to school! And it's not just for kids. We adults can return to the classroom as well. Wednesday night classes begin on August 29 at 6:30 pm. Please join us for one of these great classes: Jim Glatz and Jeremy Hunt will be teaching "The Bible from Scratch: The New Testament for Beginners." This class will be an accessible, easy-to-understand overview of the New Testament for adults who have (or fear they have) little or no Bible knowledge. Jim and Jeremy will introduce basic tools and skills for Bible study. Chris Watts and Sean Gannon will be teaching the ever-popular Dave Ramsey's "Financial Peace University." This class is a nine-lesson, money-management class. They will walk you through the basics of budgeting, dumping debt, planning and much more. Financial Peace University will start at 6:00 and end at 7:30 pm.  I will be leading "40 Days of Love: We Were Made for Relationships." This class will complement the fall sermon series. We'll discover what Jesus teaches about healthy relationships and learn to love others like Jesus - with patience, kindness, truth and forgiveness. In addition, Sara McCarter will lead a Moms in Prayer group on Wednesday nights. This group is for women of any age desiring to pray for children and schools, whether public, private or home school, from preschool to college. They'll participate in group and partner-led prayer time, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn and grow in their prayer life. Supper will be served from 5:30 - 6:30 pm in the gym.  Join us for delicious food and fellowship before class. Please make a weekly reservation for each supper by that Monday at 12 noon.

Starting early September, several small groups will begin to dig deeper into our fall sermon series, "40 Days of Love: We Were Made for Relationships." These small groups will meet at various times and places; please click here:
to see and sign-up for one of the small groups. If you have any questions about the opportunities or would like to sign-up, please call me at 803-359-7770 or email hcoker@saxegotha.org. Let's give God joy by growing together!

Grace and peace,
Helen Harrison Coker

This is a day to meet our staff and volunteers and learn how we do family at Saxe Gotha. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and guests to learn about our ministry. We will also be unveiling our School Year calendars, so come ready to see what we have to offer this year!

Lunch is being provided by Ray Carpenter so please RSVP to:
https://saxegotha.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/151443 and encourage others to as well, so that we can get an accurate count on food. Fall Sermon Series & Small Groups:
"We Were Made for Relationships." Starting September 9, we will begin a 6-week study "40 Days of Love" by Rick Warren. We would like to put together a list of small group leaders and locations, much like we did for "40 Days in the Word" a few years ago. Please let Helen Harrison Coker know if you are able to lead a group: hcoker@saxegotha.org. There is a leaders guide and video lesson for each week, so all you really need is a location (home, office, school) to host a small group.

If you would like to participate in a small group, please see HH or sign-up here:

Study Books:  The study guide that goes along with this series is $7.  We are also recommending buying and reading "The Relationship Principles of Jesus" by Tom Holliday, which is $13.   You can purchase the books online, or HH will have some available at the church.
Teacher Training for All Preschool and Elementary Sunday  School Teachers:  Sunday, August 19 ( 8:30-9:30 am in the Gym)

Please make every effort to attend.  We will all be using  new curriculum and beginning an intentional scope and sequence approach to Sunday School.  This new material will create a framework that will begin with our youngest 2s and complete with our 8th graders. This new material will offer our students an intentional experience with the Bible and will move from story to story and concept to concept according to the age of the students.  By having a scope and sequence, it guarantees that our students will be exposed to the entire Bible as they move through the grades.
Parents Night Out - Friday, September 7, 6:30-9:00 pm. This is a free event ParentsNightOut for children ages newborn through 5th graders but reservations are required. To register, email Lori Lowman: llowman@saxegotha.org .

Movie Night: Thursday, August 16 in the Light House Room 112-113. Movie "The King's Speech" begins at 5:30 pm.  Please bring appetizers and/or desserts to share with friends. Reservations are not required.

CHRISTIANS IN CAREER TRANSITION (C.I.C.T.):
In today's economy, many individuals are facing the difficult reality of finding a new position or alternative employment. This ministry assists individuals with writing a resume, improving interviewing skills, or providing support as one goes through this time of transition. The group is available to meet with you on an as needed basis.  Please contact Kathy Arrowsmith (803.238.6905 or at kca21@yahoo.com) to schedule a meeting with the Christians in Career Transition Ministry.
Stephen Ministry  is our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. These connections are confidential and matched up by gender. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whose life seems barren and forlorn because of crisis or tragedy.  What do Stephen Ministers do?  These individuals listen to people in need, explore feelings, pray, share Christ's love, maintain confidentiality, and attend to the care-giving process, while leaving the results to God.  Stephen Ministers have big hearts.  If you are feeling unloved or need a friend, contact  Carol Perrin  at (803)917-6690 , the referral coordinator. Please know that your identity and requests are kept confidential.
