Tutoring Program at OLHC

Our tutoring program is back!  We meet at St. Teresa's on Tuesday mornings to carpool to Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) School - and we LOVE working with the students there who greet us with hugs and smiles! We're usually back by 10:30am, after making a difference in the life of an OLHC student. The more members who come, the more children we can help, so we're hoping you'll join us.  Use the link and sign up!

Knitting Angels

We all need a dose of productive relaxation in our lives right? Knitting is good for your health and, when you're knitting adorable tiny toppers for our layettes, it's good for your soul too!  Knitting angels had their first gathering in Cynthia Tarantino's lovely home enjoying a social and productive knitting session on Oct. 19th. Recipes were requested for the yummy frittatas and chocolate banana cake that Cynthia made!

Many more meetings are planned throughout the year in homes and watch for an email about our proposed evening of knitting/wine drinking at Wool & Grace in December. No experience needed, it's an excellent way to start a new hobby and make your own personal impact on our Layettes of Love!!

A Wonderful Morning of Reflection!

There were over 30 women in attendance for our 2017 Morning Retreat which took place on the 3rd Floor of Mondo. Everyone was in agreement that it was a lovelatmosphere to meet in. Our guest speaker, Pam Robertson, led a relaxing and spiritual discussion that left everyone feeling very fulfilled with new ideas on how to handle the everyday stress and worries that we carry around with us.  What a treat to take some time to feed our spirits surrounded by friends! Now we're ready to tackle a project or two. For more information about Pam Robertson and her Jars of Joy venture you can visit meredithsjarsofjoy.com .

On another note regarding Spirituality, please watch for an upcoming email regarding our first Home Mass of the season in November. We are also planning to revive our years ago tradition of meeting at an 8:30am weekday mass a few times this year as a group. Our first scheduled "meet at Mass" is planned for Monday, December 11th. Immediately following mass we will be meeting for Christ Child's Advent Giving Tree morning of packaging for anyone interested in volunteering at that hands on event.

Second Make A Difference Day

On October 28th, over 30 chapters across the nation will meet to help build layettes in honor this year's theme of Read a Book by donating a brand new baby board book. Personally assembled layettes are the hallmark of the Christ Child organization.  Our chapter will work on every part of our own unique layettes. There's opportunities to sew, knit, tie blankets and de-tag brand new baby clothes. Many thanks in advance to all those who join us for a fun active morning!

Also, please remember if you would like to donate a book to include in our layettes..for this Saturday or anytime this year..remember you can easily go to the CCS Wish List on Amazon and the book(s) will be shipped directly to CCS. Here is the link to our Amazon list.  CLICK HERE

9th Annual Rummage Sale

All hands on deck for our biggest fundraiser of the year! This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 4th. We are holding the sale a little later this year and we are hoping that members will be purging their "treasures" in anticipation of the holidays and in turn our Rummage Sale buyers will be looking ahead to shopping for the winter season.
Many hands make for a much lighter workload, so please sign up for a shift to help either price and sort, or sell on Saturday! Our new Rummage Sale chairs, Susie Hoecker and Rikki Owen are excited to kick this event off next week and will warmly welcome any help everyone is willing to extend to make this a successful day.

Annual School Supplies Drive

Another successful drive benefitted our Summit school children.  Partnering once again with Bridges Outreach, Christ Child volunteers reached over 350 children in need in our community and helped to outfit them with everything from pencils to backpacks to ensure another year of academic readiness.  Kudos to all for a job well done!
If you are ready to become more involved with Christ Child, we are looking for two new chairpeople to run this very well-oiled machine next year in 2018. Please let us know you are interested by contacting Mary Kull @ [email protected]. It is a project that impacts children directly and is a nice way to connect with another fellow volunteer organization, Bridges, and some of their volunteers. Please think about it!

Looking Ahead -

As always, if you have a friend who is interested in the Christ Child Society and wants to take a look and see what we do and how we all interact, please feel free to bring them along to any meeting, Home Mass or event. All are welcome. Keep in mind our Bring A Friend evening general membership meeting will be on Thursday, January 25th and its a great time to reconnect after the holidays.

Our Advent Giving Tree morning for Christ Child members is always an active, hardworking and extremely fulfilling experience. Please mark your calendars for Monday, December 11th...try to join all of us for 8:30 Mass as a wonderful way to start your Christmas season morning and then think about joining us to wrap, wrap and wrap in the spirit of the Advent season!

Please forward any suggestions or comments to our email address, we always welcome new ideas about how we can make your Christ Child Society experience a wonderful one.
