Staten Island rides a perfect game into Little League World Series

Might as well call him Bruno Stars.
Gregory Bruno fired a perfect game Sunday in Bristol, Conn., to help Staten Island's Mid-Island Little League team beat the team from Berlin, Maryland, 4-0, in the Mid-Atlantic regional and advance to the Little League World Series.

Build That Seawall

Red tape between federal agencies over waterfront access could stall the construction of the East Shore seawall, which was set to begin later this year.
For the seawall to be built, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needs access to Miller Field, which can only be granted by the National Park Service (NPS). The agency stated in 2016 that it would provide the access (called an easement), but has failed to do so, raising concerns that legislation would be required to move forward with construction.

Overcoming Obstacles in International Real Estate

If international real estate was easy, everyone would be doing it! It is a challenging discipline, but those who are committed stand to gain a lot, from strong business contacts to a new view on the world and the vast opportunities within it, and, yes, even more money. In a recent survey, CIPS designees reported significantly higher income in 2016 than those without the designation. This tells us it's not easy, but worth it.

MARKET TRENDS

Metro Home Prices Climb to New All-Time High

Amidst staggeringly low inventory levels in much of the country during the second quarter, existing-homes sales cooled and home prices maintained their robust level of appreciation, according to the latest quarterly report by the National Association of Realtors®. Last quarter, the San Francisco metro area joined the San Jose metro area for having a median sales price above $1 million.

You Have the Right to Remain Silent

You are walking in the street or about ready to sit down to dinner when you receive an accusatory email or text message from your client or customer berating you on an issue which you are told has resulted in monetary damages because of a perceived misrepresentation by you or you are told that you committed a licensing violation which will result in the filing of a complaint against you with the New York State Department of State. No matter what you may be doing at that moment, your first impulse is to respond with a scathing email or text absolving yourself of any liability and proceeding to restate the facts of the claim as they are perceived by you.

LEGISLATIVE NEWS
Congress Extends NFIP Four Months, Calls for Reform

Congress recently voted in favor of a bill that extends the 50-year-old National Flood Insurance Plan (NFIP) another four months; the seventh extension since September 2017. The plan was set to expire at midnight.
Elizabeth Mendenhall, president of the National Association of Realtors, said in a statement, "We applaud lawmakers for taking this needed action to prevent disruptions to closings in thousands of communities across the country. Although the National Flood Insurance Program will be extended through November 30 when signed into law, the NFIP is in desperate need of reforms that will make it solvent and sustainable in the long term.

TECH TIPS

Analysis and Branding Key to Providing Value

For Helen Hanna Casey, CEO of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, providing value is the name of the game for staying ahead of the competition. And she must be doing something right, as the brokerage-sitting at 214 offices and 7,154 agents-continues to grow in size and scope.
That value, according to Helen, equates to providing best-in-class branding, data, and analysis tools for both her organization and its agents. Her go-to source is Realtors Property Resource® (RPR®).

Social Media Mistakes to Avoid at All Costs

The rise of social media in the 21st century has completely changed our lives. It's the perfect combination of salty and sweet; such a necessary evil. And of course, social media comes with a plethora of mistakes to go with it. Please, avoid these slip-ups!
Don't trash talk other agents or brokerages.
If agents think the best marketing play is pointing their fingers at how bad someone else is to make them look good, it means they're probably not a very good agent.
